Pablo Sandoval- 3 for 3, 2B. BA= .253. Sandoval did not figure into the scoring. Tim Flannery sent him home from 2B on a hard single to RF by Brandon Crawford, but Werth was fairly shallow and has a cannon. Pabs was out by at least 10 feet. That was the 3'rd out of the inning, so chances are Pablo doesn't score anyway, but you never know. He certainly had no chance going home.
Brandon Crawford- 2 for 4, 3B. BA= .255. Crawford continued his hot hitting and scored the Giants only run after a leadoff triple in the 9'th.
Madison Bumgarner- 7 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 2.67. The Nationals led off the 5'th inning with a bloop single and a broken bat single that advanced Desmond to 3'rd. It looked like Bummy might get out of it with just 1 run allowed after he caught a popup bunt followed by a sac fly, but 2 more singles brought home the trailing runner and that was the difference in the ballgame. Probably not Bummy's best effort ever, but it should have been good enough to win.
Giants got their leadoff batter on base in 5 out of the 9 innings and got their second batter on in 2 other innings yet did not score until the 9'th. BABIP!
The Loss narrowed the Giants lead over the Dodgers in the NL West to 7.5 games as the Despicable Ones downed the Reds 6-1. The Reeling Rockies lost to the Braves 13-10 to remain 12.5 games back while the Pathetic Padres lost to the Phillies 5-2 and are 13 games back. The D'Backs beat the 'Stros 4-1 to gain ground to 14 games back, still in last place.
Matt Cain tries to stave off a series defeat tonight facing Tanner Roark who has pitched very well for the Nats. Man, they have a good team!
It does appear the Nats have a pretty good team. They are up for playing the team with the current best record. Our challenge is to meet their best with our best, small sample size notwithstanding, though the victorious team of the series will not fail to get a tremendous mental boost.
