Matt Chapman singled in the designated runner in the top of the 10's and newcomer Dylan Smith held off the Cubs in the bottom of the inning for the Save. Key Lines:
Jung Hoo Lee RF- 1 for 4, RBI. BA= .323. The Giants scored single runs in the 1'st and 10'th innings. The sequence in the first inning was a walk to Devers, a single by Arraez, Adames struck out then Lee delivered the RBI single. The Giants only had one other hit the entire game before Chapman's RBI single in the 10'th.
Trevor McDonald RHP- 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 6 K's, 4/1 GO/AO. ERA= 4.15. McDonald threw 87 pitches in 5 innings but allowed just one run to keep the Giants in the game. He fell one inning short of a Quality Start.
6 Giants pitchers threw a scoreless inning each. Keaton Winn RHP worked the 9'th inning in a tie game and Dylan Smith got the Save in extras. It looks like Tony Vitello is settling into a patters of Caleb Kilian RHP working the 7'th inning, Erik Miller LHP the 8'th and Winn the 9'th.
The Giants try to get some sleep on the red eye flight home. They start a home stand against the Nationals tonight with Logan Webb RHP facing Miles Mikolas RHP who comes in with a 6.39 ERA. He pitched 4 shut out innings against the Giants on April 19 in Washington.
If SF plays @ .604 they'll win 85 games, and, with today's standings, they would squeak into the Playoffs.
ReplyDeleteWorse teams have won the World Series: 2006 St. Louis Cardinals (83-78).
And the 1985 Twins won in 1987 with 85 wins.
Admire the optimism and the maths.
DeleteIt's reasonable to think the bats might engage, hold for the run.
But its not reasonable to think the pitching will.
Posey's trades at the end of last year were intriguing. I'd like to see him secure the confidence of the owners to push it further (with some job security) and see what else he might do.
Hats off to Smith in the 10th!
