  1. Bad day for the good guys! :<(
Doc, how often does a player do better in MLB than they did coming through the minor leagues?
    Are there any Giants?

    1. It happens but not often. Two Giants players that come to mind who exceeded their milb records at the MLB level: Robby Thompson and Brandon Crawford.

    2. Has anyone from the top 30 (+/-) in your December Top 50 list disappointed you? Wilkin Ramos might be one.
Lower down, #40, Greg Farone, hasn't looked particularly good.
Who has surprised you? #46, Jonah Cox even being up? Or Bericoto? Cavanaugh?

    3. I usually do a Top 50 Stock Up/Stock Down list during the All-Star Break.

    4. I just eyeballed the McCovey 44 prospects list, the only ones who are worse than mildly disappointing (& very few are even mildly disappointing, huge majority are at least to expectations or beter) -- #28 Trent Harris, #29Carlos De La Rosa (who's 18), #36 Reid Worley (who's 19 & has hasn't played), #38 Rayner Arias (who's 20 but looking especially bad). Wow, what a 1st half for the minors. ACL squad just went above .500 meaning that all 7 have winning records at moment.

    5. & # 22 Bostick missing year (but Reggie Crawford, who got 2nd most votes for last spot, so arguably #45, exceeding '26 expectations of him!)

  3. After watching Kevin Gausman get shelled, might today , looked up his contract 5 yrs $110 mil. He reportedly wanted to stay a Giant and he wasn't offered a contract, wow. Carlos Rodan Yankee contract 6 yrs $162 mil. That's a lot of $ he's 33 yrs old. Doc while I agree that big multi year contracts are risky for pitchers Gausman s contract sounds reasonable to me. I thought this was FZ deciding not to pay Gausman and Rodan , but I'm beginning to think it's the owners not wanting to pay 9 figure contracts to pitchers.. Logan Webb s contract is 5 yrs $90 mil. The owners do spend enough on payroll, but it's fair to ask if they're willing to spend enough on pitching. That's why my earlier post suggested they pour resources developing their own young pitching like the Brewers and Guardians do, that ,both smaller market franchises.

    1. I thought FZ did a pretty good job finding undervalued pitchers due for a rebound. Gausman was the biggest success, by far and in retrospect should have been signed to a longterm deal. He ran out of luck with the Sean Manaea/Anthony DeSclafani/Ross Stripling trio.

  4. The Atlanta Braves acquired (Forever Giant?) Joey Bart in a trade Thursday with the Pittsburgh Pirates for right-handed reliever Hunter Stratton.
How are the former Giants doing with the Braves tonight?
    Yastrzemski is in RF
    Dubon is in CF
    Dominic Smith is the DH
    Bart is on the bench.
Atlanta at 46-27 has a 7-game lead in the East going into their game tonight.
