Game Wrap 6/3/2026: Giants 1 Brewers 0

Victor Bericoto's solo home run in the 5'th inning was all Logan Webb needed to record a Win.  Keaton Winn secures his first Save of the season.  Key Lines:

Victor Bericoto RF- 1 for 3, HR(1).  BA= .250.  Probably would have been an out in Oracle Park, but Bericoto showed off the opposite-field power we saw in spring training.  The Giants had 10 other baserunners in the game but this was the only one to end up scoring a run.

Logan Webb RHP- 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's, 12/4 GO/AO.  ERA= 4.25.  Webb did not allow his first baserunner until the 6'th inning and did not allow his first hit until the 7'th in an ace-level performance.  Hopefully this is the corner he needed to turn.  Maybe the knee was bothering through the first month and good health will let him be the ace the rest of the season.  At age 29 and with two seasons left on his contract, if the season is lost at the trade deadline, do you move him for a prospect haul?

Keaton Winn RHP- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 3/0 GO/AO, Save(1).  ERA= 2.30.  Winn earns his first Save of the season, 5-outs and a 1-0 lead no less.  Can we please give him a chance to establish himself in the role?

Adrian Houser RHP tries to gain a split of the series in an 11:10 AM PDT start facing Coleman Crow RHP who comes in with a 3.14 ERA in 3 MLB starts.

  1. Wonderful to get masterful pitching (with a near disaster provided by Miller) and the bases empty HR, but the Giants managed to get 9 other runners and not score any of them with at least 5 in scoring position.

  2. So is Bericoto supposed to be a prospect of note? I'd never even heard of him before he was called up. He's already done more for us than Encarnacion.

  3. I think you do move Logan Webb for prospects. By the time this team contends again he will be past his prime. The Giants avoided any serious rebuild during Farhan’s time and always held on to the miniscule chance that they could get into a wild card spot and make a run. Never happened. There were lost opportunities to trade for prospects then and the case for doing so this season is even more clear.

  4. I am open to trading Webb. No hurry, his contract is good through 2028 and not excessively expensive. Skubal may be available and may be a priority for teams looking for a short-term rental.
Ray and Arraez should be traded for whatever we can get.

    1. It might be a good idea to listen to offers for Logan Webb, but they don't have to trade him for the reasons you mentioned. Guessing Buster won't since they'll try to win next year. Maybe teams will ask about Keaton Winn, Buster got a nice haul trading Doval and Rogers

  5. REBUILD, but AROUND Webb....anyone else (except Big E and Schmitt) can go. This team is mediocre cuz it never goes into rebuild mode, Time to end that habit.

    1. Webb is under contract for 2 more years. He is 29 years old and has a whole lot of mileage on the arm. Remember what happened to Cain, Timmy and Bum in similar situations? If the plan is a serious rebuild, why wouldn't you trade him when you can likely get at least one top prospect in return?

  6. This team is just so strangely constructed. We're talking about trading Logan Webb for prospects to compete at a later date, all the while we have JHL, Devers, Chapman, and Adames on mega deals. Something has to give! With Webb's control for multiple years on a team-friendly deal considering his level of performance, trading him now carries significant value to the team he's dealt to... Of course we don't know what haul he would bring in return, but I'd imagine it would be very significant. If the team trusts its scouting and the haul is huge, we should 100% trade him.

  7. I think we gotta hold onto Webb. He’s someone who as long as he’s performing, we got to show loyalty to him as a terrific homegrown player who’s been a dedicated Giant. I group him with Cain and Lincecum, with Crawford and Belt. Don’t sell this guy off to get some younger assets just because we are bad this year. Keep him for the long haul. Would be great if he spent his entire career with us.

    1. What happened to Cain and Lincecum at similar stages of their careers?

    2. I can go either way on trading Webb or not but I think they cannot hang onto him and think of him as a #1 pitcher at this point.

  8. Sorry but Winn isn’t close material. To be honest I don’t think we have any players on the team who are closer material. That goes for Walker, Killian, and even Randy Rodriguez. Even Doval wasn’t a good closer. It’s like we’ve been so devoid of closers for so long, we are always just throwing whichever reliever is doing best for us in the closer position and that player just fails. I like Killian a lot but he’s much better off NOT being the closer but it’s not like we have other better options. I still hold hope that Reggie Crawford comes back healthy this summer throwing GAS with his big lefty frame and dominates in AAA and gets called up and becomes closer.

    1. I hope you are not holding your breath until Reggie Crawford pitches again, let alone as a Closer at the MLB level.

    2. I agree Doc, if the plan is to rebuild and not contend for multiple years they should seriously consider moving Webb. But Ownership has never liked to rebuild even in 2018 I believe when they lost 98 games, they were trying to contend the very next year.

  9. Doc, do you think hiring GJ hiring Buster was a mistake?

    1. The Giants have made a whole series of very bold, reactive moves on multiple levels which in retrospect maybe crossed the line into recklessness: FZ, Gabe Kapler, Buster, Tony Vitello, the Devers trade, multiple prospects rushed to the major leagues.
