AAA: Tacoma Rainiers defeated the Sacramento River Cats 6-1:
Jesus Rodriguez C- 1 for 2, 2B, BB, SF. BA= .333.
Blade Tidwell RHP- 5 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 6.12.
Ryan Walker RHP- 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 1.42.
Rodriguez didn't throw well enough to keep MLB runners honest so can't play catcher at major league level until he improves that skill. Encouraging appearance for Walker. I am rooting for him to figure it out but he needs to prove for a more sustained period before getting another shot at the MLB level and should not move back to Closer right away even then.
AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels held off the Erie Seawolves 8-7.
Dayson Croes 3B= 2 for 4. BA= .324.
Parks Harber LF- 2 for 3, HR(7), BB. BA= .323.
Bo Davidson CF- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(7). BA= .250.
Charlie Szykowny DH- 2 for 4, HR(6). BA= .271.
Jean Carlos Sio RF- 2 for 4. BA= .500.
Yunior Marte RHP- 4.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 3.86.
Will watch Jean Carlos Sio closely after a promotion to AA. I like him as utility prospect.
A+: Everett Aquasox outscored the Eugene Emeralds 8-5.
Jhonny Level 2B= 2 for 5. BA= .500.
Gavin Kilen SS- 1 for 3, BB. BA= .2.86.
Dakota Jordan CF- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(7). BA= .281.
Jancel Villaroel C- 2 for 3. BA= .280.
Jhonny "Moves Up A" Level.(thanks to a reader/commenter for that one). To my eye, he's a future 2B. I haven't seen Kilen play but from what I read, 2B is probably his future position too. So it's not like one of them is pushing the other off SS. Dakota Jordan has the tools. If he can hit at this level he should be able to eventually hit at any level. Hope they don't rush him up too. I am all for the Giants converting their prospect talent into major league players but some of the moves we see appear to be from a place of desperation and reactivity.
A: San Jose Giants beat the Inland Empire 66'ers 7-4.
Hayden Jatczak 1B- 1 for 3, HR(7), BB. BA= .311.
Dario Reynoso 3B- 3 for 4, 2 HR(8), 2 E(6). BA= .301.
Keyner Martinez RHP- 4 IP, 2 H, R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 9 K's. ERA= 5.20.
Cooper McGrath RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 9.31.
Love Dario Reynoso as a hitter. He needs to polish up his infield skill whether that be at 3B or 2B.
ACL: Padres smacked the Giants 9-2.
Luis Hernandez SS- 1 for 4, 3B. BA= .310.
DSL: Giants Orange topped Arizona Black 9-8.
Yoxander Benitez RF(19 yo)- 4 for 4, 2B, SB(1). BA= .556.
Jose Valdez CF(17 yo)- 1 for 2, 2B, 2 BB, SB(1). BA= .429.
Yeison Oviedo 2B(18 yo)- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .667.
Brandon Vasquez DH(19 yo)- 2 for 3, Sac. BA= .500.
Angelo Ugueto LF- 1 for 2, 3B, 2 BB. BA= .333.
Most of these DSL kids I've never heard of before. It will take time to see patterns emerge.
DSL: Giants Black blanked the Blue Jays Red 6-0(7 innings).
Franco Willias LF(21 yo)- 2 for 4, 3B, SB(1). BA= .375.
Diego Villegas DH(22 yo)- 0 for 0, 4 BB, SB(1). BA= .200.
Boris Sarduy 1B(19 yo)- 2 for 4, SB(1). BA= .286.
Santiago Guerrero LHP(18 yo)- 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Brayan Cabello RHP(22 yo)- 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00.
A rule of thumb for these DSL kids is anyone at this level over 18 yo is less likely to be a true prospect. That is more true of position players than pitchers. Another one is you don't like to see a player repeating the level twice, although that is true at any level.
Hope you enjoyed your visit to Denver. I liked what Keith Law said on a recent podcast about Giants farm system. Scouts from other teams who cover the Giants have told him they notice improvements from players in the Giants system this year. That speaks well for player development in the Posey regime. That hasn't been the case in previous regimes. He likes their player acquisition especially international. He likes Josuer Gonzalez, Luis Hernandez, Gavin Kilan , and Johny Level. He also sees Level as one of their better prospects and a future everyday 2nd baseman.
ReplyDeleteTidwell has had a crazy roller coaster year mentally and physically as have many Giants upper level prospects due to the horrible team in SF. And forget JROD, Parks Harber is really making the Doval trade look good. And GREAT stuff on Level!! Does one of Hernandez or Gonzales move up to SJ soon? OTOH, I haven't seen Gonzales in the box score for a awhile.......And Dayson CROES justr seems like a ball player, the type that eeks out a MLB utility role..Thank Goodness the minors re fun to watch this year!

I think Gonzalez hurt himself running out a triple. I read he's had hammy issues all spring so that may have flared up again. I"m thinking he could be out for awhile.
DeleteUpper levels of Giants minor leagues need starting pitchers. Why wouldn't Giants select Jackson Flora (UC Santa Barbara) with their #4 overall pick instead of position players Lombard or Booth ?
DeleteI would love to see the Giants take Flora if he is there at #4.
DeleteI hope that Jackson Flora (UC Santa Barbara) starting pitcher is the Giants choice w/ their #4 overall pick in 2026 MLB draft. Starting pitching is greater need than another shortstop and/or HS bat
ReplyDeleteDoc, we're going to Sac to watch their series against Tacoma this weekend. Do you have any suggestions on players to keep an eye on?
ReplyDeleteIn the MLB draft, unlike other sports, you draft who you think is the best choice available, not to your need, the most likely to make it through the rigors of development.
ReplyDeleteIn the first and even the second round if you think someone who is available at your pick has a better chance of making it through the years of development, that's who you pick.
True, but if you have two players of approximately equal value who project to be fast movers you might let need break the tie.
DeleteI love Harbers numbers and at AA Richmond, to boot. Great stuff there. Hopefully a great trade.
