Down on the Farm: 6/11/2026

AAA:  Sugarland Space Cowboys shut out the Sacramento River Cats 2-0.

Joe Whitman LHP- 5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 1.59.

Carson Whisenhunt LHP won May minor league pitcher of the month for AAA and Joe Whitman won for AA.  He was promoted to AAA on June 2.  The River Cats also have Matt "Tugboat" Williamson who appears to be right there with Whisenhunt and Whitman for MLB readiness.  We'll have to start calling them the Lefty W's.  Going down the line for a depth chart they also have Cesar Perdomo LHP at AA and Luis De La Torre LHP at A+.

AA:  Richmond Flying Squirrels outscored the Harrisburg Senators 11-10.

Dayson Croes LF- 3 for 5.  BA= .291.

Garrett Langrell RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 4.50.

Quite the offensive explosion here.  I'll just take this opportunity to say most of these players were drafted last year out of college and should be playing at A+ level by now.  They are simply too advanced for this league.

    1. He's not doing so well so far this season but yes, as we all see, pitcher development is not linear and he can get it back together at any time.

  2. K/9 above 11 again, coming off a 2.61 ERA in '25, and he's maintaining that level if forgive & adjust out couple blow-ups (walked 5 twice in 8 starts, once giving up 5ER in 2 IP)

    1. Bresnahan? Like I said, he can go run like the lefty W's and Perdomo at any time.

  3. Fun draft speculation-,the more I thought about it the Bailey trade to get the 29th pick and Bonus pool money doesn't. Fit the MO as the type of trade the Giants would make since they're always in the win now mode. Rumors have Giants targeting Chlowsky and keith law said rumor is Giants would back up truck for Emerson. It sounds like they might go overslot and use some extra bonus pool $ to land Chlowsky, Emerson, or Lackey at #4. Also sounds like the top 5 picks in the draft are not etched in stone. I'm probably off base but fun to speculate, based on mock drafts I see.

    1. I hope they don't burn up all their slot money on one pick, but I agree that is a very Buster thing to do. There are ton of high-ceiling HS pitchers in this draft. I hope they stick to script, take a slot-value player at #4 then HS pitcher at #29 and #55. That would be a near-perfect draft, IMO. Lombard at #4 is growing on me. That kid is already a monster with athleticism to play any position.

    2. Hope so Doc,I just like following all the rumors regarding the Giants pick at #4.. They'll draft a good player in that spot no matter who they pick. This is their chance to pick additional top prospects with all their early picks , I think 4 picks from the 1st 90 taken? The additional bonus pool $ should help them sign those picks. They could also go for a 1st round talent who drops down, due to big bonus demands. Yes I'd like to see them draft a pitcher who throws 95-100 mph. It doesn't seem to be a high priority for them.

    3. Doc checked out a BA podcast by Carlos Collazo. Jacob Lombard while a great prospect had a 38% swing and miss rate considered for a high school hitter high enough to be concerned. Compared to Grady Emerson another high school SS had 18% swing and miss rate. If Giants draft Lombard can they make adjustments to his hitting to improve his hit tool. If yes, they'll have something!
