Spring Training Game Wrap 3/20/2024: Giants 5 Angels 2

Jordan Hicks pitched into the 5'th inning and Jung Hoo Lee led the offense from the top of the order in a Giants win that had a regular season feel.  Key Lines:

Jung Hoo Lee CF- 2 for 2, 2B, BB.  BA= .400.  Is it too early to feel ecstatic about Jung Hoo Lee anchoring the top of the order for the next 4 years?

Joey Bart C- 1 for 1, 2B.  BA= .423.  Bart lined a double off the LF wall.  Patrick Bailey went 0 for 3 with a K in his first game back from the hand contusion.

Marco Luciano PR/SS- 1 for 1, 2 SB(2).  BA= .167.   Luciano is 4 for 10 with 3 BB's over his last 6 games.

Jordan Hicks RHP- 4.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 6 K's, GO/AO= 4/1.  ERA= 3.75.

Nick Avila RHP- 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, Save(1).  ERA= 4.35.  Avila was a vulture last season for the AAA Sacramento River Cats winning 14 games in multi-inning bullpen role.  I don't think he has a shot at an Opening Day MLB roster spot but could be in interesting option if/when needs arise later in the season.

Landon Roupp RHP gets a start tomorro evening against the Brewers and Wade Miley LHP.  Is Wade Miley really still pitching?

  1. Looks like the entire team is heating up! SNELL will have a beneficial domino effect on Harrison, Hicks and whoever..I'm a doubter on the Hicks conversion but his last two starts have been very good..Love to eat a lot of Crow Parmesan on him!!!

Ya know, I really want to see BART succeed as a Giant or somewhere else if (when) it comes to that. I would keep him around as long as possible to see if everybody (Bailey/Murphy) is healthy. No options, right??So I guess if they are healthy, and You have a full time DH in SOLER, you have to release or trade him by the start of the season. A shame.

Hopefully, LUCIANO continues his hot hitting in AAA and makes the AHMED era very brief...

A lot of Opt out possibilities coming in the next week or two, maybe the Giants can find a LHRP?

  2. Official Scorer gave Soler a double today — his first XBH as a Giant— on a bloop into right field (clean hit) that the the OFer let bounce past him.
It will just be the first of many extra base hits we will enjoy!

  4. Padres scored 5 runs in the 1st inning off Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

    YY's Spring line: IP 9.2, H 15, R 9, ER 9, BB 4, SO 14, WHIP 1.97

What would Zaidi's critics be saying had he given the Prize Pitcher a 12-year, $325 million deal?

    1. Well, if he did, he wouldnt have gotten bombed by SD and all would be looking good.! My criticism of FZ with the starting Pitchers was that even with Hicks, the Giants still desperately needed one ......Until they didn't!!!! ..and while I would have liked Yammer, I always thought Snell or Montgomery was the way to go..And FZ did that and smartly..I tip my hat to him for the SP and Soler/Lee

    2. I wanted Yamamoto too but not at the price the Dodgers paid. He may yet turn out to be great but FZ got a much more proven pitcher for a very small fraction of the price.

  5. Between the Admiral's performance and the Ohtani unpleasantness, a sense of serene Schadenfreude gently settles over Giants Nation at the dawn of the new season.

  6. Looks like the Mets got JD Martinez for a steal. Would have loved if farhan got him on that deal instead of Soler. But you can’t win ‘em all.

    1. I read a rumor that Martinez turned down a 1 year/$14 M offer from the Giants only to sign for $2 M less with the Mets.

  7. There were reports that Martinez didn't want to play in SF.
