Thairo Estrada's grand slam HR led the Giants offense to a win in a high-scoring game. Key Lines:
Michael Conforto LF- 2 for 3. BA= .296. Conforto has had a decent spring but has not hit for any power. If FZ finds a taker will he pull the trigger and give LF to Matos?
Thairo Estrada 2B- 3 for 3, 3B, HR(2). BA= .342. Thairo is red hot. He tripled in addition to the grand slam HR.
Luis Matos CF- 1 for 3, HR(4). BA= .262. Matos leads the team in spring HR's. Is it enough to make the Opening Day roster? He should not be on the team unless he is playing every day and up to stay.
Juan Sanchez LHP- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K. ERA= 2.00. If spring training competition means anything, Sanchez should be the second lefty in the bullpen after Taylor Rogers.
Jordan Hicks RHP gets the start tomorrow afternoon against the Angels and Tyler Anderson LHP in Tempe, AZ.
Snell's BB kryptonite is gonna be mitigated by having Mr Bailey's unicorn framing skills as per this fangraph article. Patrick's +16 framing runs and 52.9% K rate are both the highest marks in MLB.

Indeed an interesting angle. Thank you for pointing it out.
DeleteGood to see Thario and Conforto heating up...Does Matos or Munguia make it? OTOH, YAZ is having a horrible spring so.....
ReplyDeleteSanchez has indeed pitched well enough to make the team...OTOH, Garret keeps doing his gas can and has done everything to get released..ANy vet lefties on the Waiver wire??
BTW, I was listening to some yahoo on the MLB network named Yander Alonso basically slamming SNELL (the Cy Young Award winner!)as a 4-5 inning piitcher and more and putting the Giants, even with their off season that most are raving about, far behind the D-back and Juggernaut Padres...Hey, it's one thing for me to questions FZ, but them's fighting words from a non-fan and Padre lover!!! :)..

Totally agree on Snell..And what a 1-2 punch with WEBB!..and right before Harriosn and Hicks (with maybe Cobb and Ray later in the season)
DeleteBy the way, have there been any other cases where one team had the Top 2 finishes in the CY Young voting from the year before???
SteveVA
More times than you might think, Steve:
ReplyDelete2003 AZ: Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling
2002 AZ: Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling
1993 ATL: Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine
1990 KC: Bret Saberhagen, Mark Davis
1975 LAD: Mike Marshall, Andy Messersmith
1957 BRO: Don Newcombe, Sal Maglie
Dodgers came close in 2015, when Arrieta won, but Kershaw and Greinke finished 2 & 3. Any one of those pitchers could have won that year.
Move Conforto? Probably have to eat half his contract. He was out of BB over a year and healing: he's got something to prove. If he's good for 1-2 WAR he'll earn whatever he'd would have saved on Luxury Tax
ReplyDeleteKeep him!
