I love Trenton Brooks' bat but it's not a great sign that he's DH'ing in the minors. The Giants have pretty good pitching depth in Sacramento. The way the bullpen looks so far they are going to need it.
Other minor league levels start April 5.
there seems to be this fondness / hope for Schmitt, the mustache I guess, but I don't think he's a major leaguer unless he can be 2-way & also do low-leverage relief pitching. He doesn't hit well enough to start at 3B, and as a backup position player versatile Fitzgerald better in every regard, plus Giants have legit infield prospects up & down the minor leagues, including '23 draft emphasis. Trade Schmitt now while there's still platinum-glove adulation of him, and Villar is org 3B depth manning Sac'to hot corner, and Brooks can play 1st
ReplyDeleteAvila picks up where he left off 2023 as pitcher of record for his 15th win without a loss over the 2 years.
ReplyDeleteAlso, he got 2 wins at the end of 2022 with Richmond after being tagged with a loss August 11, 2022. So across 2 levels in 3 seasons, he is 17-0.
Reminiscent of Dodger Phil Regan in 1966 when he got 13 consecutive wins as a reliever to close the season. He also picked up a couple more at the beginning of 1967. Koufax named him the Vulture for blowing many saves, then picking up the Win.
I totally disagree with your comments on Schmitt. He has a cannon for a arm, does need to work to be more of a gap to gap hitter.Sheesh man, Check his numbers on Baseball Reference.
