Game Wrap 6/11/2019: Giants 6 Padres 5

The Giants offense put up two 3-spots to pick up Tyler Beede who ran into some tough luck in the 5'th inning.  Key Lines:

Joe Panik 2B- 2 for 4.  BA= .245.  The relay throw had Panik by a mile but caromed away from the catcher to allow him to score the go-ahead run in the middle of the 7'th inning 3-run rally.  Panik is hitting .286 over his last 7 games.  He is a free agent at the end of the season.  Do any contending teams need a rental 2B?

Evan Longoria 3B- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .234.  Longoria scorched a ball that short hopped the LF wall to drive in the tying and go-ahead runs in the 7'th.  He then scored on Pablo's SF.  Longo is hitting .333 over his last 7 games. Tough to envision a trade scenario for him.

Pablo Sandoval 1B- 1 for 2, BB, SF.  BA= .277.  Pabs has been slumping, hitting just .222 over his last 7 games.  Nice game here as he scored the Giants first run of the game after singling to lead off the 4'th inning.  He drove in the eventual winning run with the SF.  Maaaaybe there's a contender who needs a nice bat off the bench?

Tyler Austin LF- 1 for 3.  BA= .235.  Austin's 2-out single in the 4'th inning drove in Pablo Sandoval with the Giants first run of the game.  Austin gets the start in LF despite the Giants facing a RHP.

Steven Duggar CF- 1 for 4, HR(4).  Duggar has been struggling at the plate hitting .182 over his last 7 games, .217 over his last 15 and .196 over his last 30.  His 2-out HR in the 4'th drove in Austin ahead of him and gave the Giants a temporary 3-1 lead.  Giants have no reason to not be patient with Duggar at this point.

Tyler Beede RHP- 4.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 8.04.  The line is no bueno but Beede was a major league BABIP victim in the 5'th inning as the Padres put up a 3-spot on 2 walks and 3 infield singles.  OK, the walks were not BABIP luck but 3 infield singles?  The last one was given up by reliever Trevor Gott and drove in the last 2 runs of the inning.  The 7 K's are exciting and the Giants have absolutely no reason to not be patient with Beede.

Will Smith LHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(15).  ERA= 2.10.  Smith emphatically slammed the door on the Padres in the 9'th inning.  He is generating some major buzz in the trade rumor industry with some analysts calling him the best Closer in baseball right now.  Wouldn't be shocked to see him bring more back in a trade than Bummy.

Shaun Anderson tries to keep the momentum going, both for the Giants and himself tonight facing Joey Lucchesi.

    Always?

  3. Maybe a good comparison to a potential Will Smith trade is the Orioles trading Zack Britton last year to the Yankees for 3 pitching prospects including Dillon Tate ranked #9 in the Yankee system, the highest rated prospect they gave up. I'd be disappointed if Zaidi were to get a similar haul for Smith, and if Zaidi can't get a lot more than that for Madbum, then he shouldn't trade him. I can imagine how upset the fan base would be
