Dan Slania, RHP. DOB: 5/24/1992. 6'5", 275 lbs. Drafted 2013 Round 5.
AA: 5-3, 3.59, 80.1 IP, 6.16 K/9, 3.14 BB/9.
AAA: 0-8, 7.82, 61 IP, 8.41 K/9, 4.57 BB/9.
Big Dan Slania also pitched 1 scoreless inning for the Giants in 2017 before getting sent back down to the minors. I guess if I was making this list today, I would rank him a bit lower. I think I thought he was still on the 40 man roster, but he passed through waivers in October so at least is still in the organization. As you can see from the numbers, his big challenge is controlling the strike zone and improving those AAA numbers. If he does that, he could be in position for another crack at the majors sometime in 2018.

Imagine, Slania and Williams in the rotation in 2020!
ReplyDeleteHeston will be 30 this year. What happened to him that he went sooo bad so quickly, and is there a remedy?
Heston has tremendous movement on his 2-seam FB which is great as long as you can throw strikes with it. I think hitters may have learned to recognize which pitches were more likely to move out of the K-zone and lay off which forced him to throw a strike which....got. hammered. He also doesn't quite have command of the secondary stuff.
Deletei think heston and slania will be used as relievers this year in triple-a
