Down on the Farm: 7/5/2013

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies out hit the Sacramento River Cats 8-7:

Kensuke Tanaka(DH)- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .331.
Brett Pill(1B)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .340.
Ydwin Villegas(SS)- 3 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .435.
Chris Heston(RHP)- 3.2 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 5 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 5.73.
Fabio Castillo(RHP)- 2.1 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 7.36.
Heath Hembree(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 4.79.

Why is Ydwin Villegas playing in Fresno and what is he doing hitting .435?  Tough start for Hesto Presto.  Heath Hembree continues to pitch better.

AA  Akron Aeros defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-2:

Nothing to see here.

High A  San Jose Giants beat the Visalia Rawhide 6-3:

Brock Bond(DH)- 2 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .253.
Mac Williamson(RF)- 2 for 3, 2B, 2 BB.  BA= .266.
Ricky Oropesa(1B)- 2 for 5.  BA= .500.
Chris Lofton(CF)- 3 for 4, SB(14).  BA= .250.
Clayton Blackburn(RHP)- 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 9/2.   ERA= 4.55.

Mac stays hot.  He got an honorable mention in BA's hot sheet today.  QS for Blackburn.

Low A  Charleston River Dogs blanked the Augusta Greenjackets 2-0:

Antonio Robles(2B)- 1 for 2, 2 BB.  BA= .258.
Martin Agosta(RHP)- 4.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.18.
Jorge Bucardo(RHP)- 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 1.08.

'Jackets got just one hit in the game.  Good to see Agosta back, but gotta wonder if he's really OK with those numbers.

Short Season  Salem-Keizer Volcanoes defeated the Everett Aquasox 4-1:

Randy Ortiz(CF)- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .258.
Sam Eberle(DH)- 1 for 5, HR(4).  BA= .309.
Shilo McCall(LF)- 0 for 3, BB, SB(2).  BA= . 284.
Elliott Blair(1B)- 2 for 4, SB(1).  BA= .333.
Andrew Leenhouts(LHP)- 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 1.59.

Eberle continues to show off his power stroke.  Where did that come from?  Leenhouts has been solid, but his K/BB's are not exciting.

Rookie AZL  Giants edged the Mariners 5-4:

Brian Ragira(1B)- 2 for 4, 3B.  BA= .357.
Luis Pino(RHP)- 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 3.00.

Pino is just 18 yo and has 13 K's in 9 IP.

  1. DrB,

Havent found a scouting report on Shilo. Do you know if he projects to have above average power? Something like a 20HR-20SB type of player ceiling??

    1. Yes, I believe he Shilo McCall has some power projection. I believe BA rated him as the best hitting prospect in the Giants system this last offseason. Could be misremembering, though.

    2. Best pure hitter in the 2012 draft for the Giants. Given the # of hitting prospects they drafted however, you need to take that with a lil salt.

He's having a great start to S/S ball though.

  2. Agosta had to come out with a blister. And Susac is on the 7 day DL with some sort of finger injury.

Mac has his OPS above 800 and ISO at .199 and that might be up above with last nights performance. Nice for our guys to get some press in BA, with Crick headlining the other day as well.

    1. Kelvin Marte, SS and Mikey Edie CF. Both young and raw, of course. Marte may have some power projection and end up at 3B. Edie seems like more of a slap and dash kind of guy. Short writeups or on BA's International Tracker. No subscription.

  4. Watched the last few innings of the Fresno game. Castillo pitched well, as did Runzler and Hembree. I did not notice many breaking or off speed balls by Hembree - mostly fastballs. APGiantsfan
