Reyes Maronta(RHP)- 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.07.

Love that Shilo McCall is keeping his head above water so far.  Eberle is a holdover from last year when he hit .248/.344/.286.  He seems to have found his power stroke this season.

Are we witnessing a breakout by Julio Pena?  What happened to my white whale, Leonardo Fuentes?  Strong start by Keury Mella.

Gustavo keep showing flashes.

  1. Duffy, Galindo and Flores keep shining in AUG..Ditto with WIlliamson and Crick in SJ....

My question, reading about all these international signings but no peep from the Giants...Anybody hear anything? If they don't sign, Can they save the allotted money for next year? Use it in trades?

I have no clue how it works.

    1. Shankbone is our resident expert on IFA signings. He said they signed a couple of SS's and a pitcher or two, I think. I don't think they can carry the money allotment to next year. They can trade $$$ to other teams for players.

The Giants have a history of signing players after the Dominican developmental league All-Star game. That's when they signed Mejia, I think. Not sure when that is. I think in the early spring.

    2. Quick questions.

Who figures out each team's money allotment? Doesn't it seem like the Rangers sign a lot of high-priced IFAs every year?

    3. MLB sets the spending limits for each team. Teams can go over the limit, but then they lose money for the following year. What happens if they ignore that and just go over the limit again? I have no idea, but I'm sure MLB has some nasty penalty in written into the CBA somewhere. Also, teams can buy cap space by trading players and I think the Rangers may be one team that did that. I agree, though, it certainly seems like the Rangers are spending IFA money like there is no limit.

    4. Yeah, no pitchers yet. Two Dominican SS's - Beltre like you described and Manuel Geraldo. If the rumors on Mikey Edie are true, we'll have used up most of the 1.9MM allotment. There might be room for 1-2 smaller scale pitchers in the 150-200K range.

At 650K for Beltre, that puts him as a low 2nd/high 3rd round pick signing range if you're comping IFA to the Rule 4. The Giants love themselves some up the middle prospects!

    5. Is there any bonus threshold for IFAs that don't add to the spending limit, much like any spending after the 10th round does not count?

If not, it seems to me that this will result in a lot of lower end prospects signing with the teams that still have some budget left. And could result in a lot of prospects who might have signed smaller deals to get shut out.

I prefer the Giants focusing their spending on higher end prospects than lower end like they are doing, but worry about the limitation on IFA's into our organization, you need to take a chance on the low end fliers too.

  2. From BA: Giants signed SS Kevin Beltre for $650 K. He's 6'0", 170 lbs. Scouting report says he has a quick RH bat and plays with a lot of energy. Still learning the game and how to channel the energy.

  3. Any chance we could get Duvall line in the updates? Maybe I'm the only one following him or maybe its because he hasn't lit it up since coming off DL that I haven't seen him, but one of my favorite under the radar prospects.

    1. Duvall is hitting just .222 over his last 10 games so he hasn't had many lines that were worthy of inclusion in the highlights. I don't have specific criteria, but generally a multi-hit game and/or HR will get a player included.
