Down on the Farm: Augusta Greenjackets Roster

There is a roster up on the Greenjackets website that looks pretty legit:  SP:  Christ Stratton, Martin Agosta, Joe Biagini, Kendry Flores, Joan Gregorio.  RP:  Brandon Farley, Ian Gardeck, Stephen Johnson, Mason McVay, Tyler Mizenko, Steven Okert, Jose Reyes, Derek Law.  C:  Eric Sim, Benjamin Turner.  IF:  Stephen Branca, Mitch Delfino, Matt Duffy, Shayne Houck, Joey Rapp, Travious Relaford.  OF:  Jesus Galindo, Tyler Hollick, Charles Jones, Rafael Rodriguez.

Joey Rapp might be the best hitter.  Delfino is a sleeper as is Houck.  The twin speed demons of Galindo and Hollick will be interesting to watch.  This is an important year for Chuckie Jones.  Hope he can break out.  Last Chance Saloon for RafRod.  Of course, the SP with Stratton and Agosta leading the way will be the biggest story, at least until Stratton gets promoted.  Love the bullpen full of triple digit guys.

Minor league opening day is today.  As always, we'll have daily summaries here at When the Giants Come To Town.

  1. Tell you what, low-A hitters will be in for the bidness with that bullpen. Mano, the only thing you can do is not swing and hope they get wild! Gardeck, Johnson, Okert, McVay and Mizenko!?!? And a Derek Law sighting? As far as topping out, Johnson is 100, Gardeck/Okert are 97, McVay is 95, not sure about Mizenko. That pen is going to be something, and Okert/Johnson have the "maybe start" label to boot.

I like Houck the best as a sleeper hitter. Don't underestimate the Pennsylvania working class type I says.

  2. Read in the Baggarly chat transcript yesterday that Stratton had a pretty awful spring. Rarely even got his fastball to 90, but sat mostly in the mid-high 90's. Sounds like something to be at least a bit concerned about until he shows us something otherwise...

  3. That should say "in the mid-high 80's," not 90's.

    1. Which probably explains why he was assigned to Augusta. Probably the long layoff due to the concussion left him having to rebuild his arm strength.

  4. Any insight on where Edward Concepcion will land?

    1. I hadn't noticed that Concepcion is MIA. I would think Richmond would be a logical spot for him to land this year.
