Down on the Farm: 4/12/2013

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies defeated the Tucson Padres 7-4:

Gary Brown(CF)- 2 for 5, 2B, CS(2).  BA= .194.
Kensuke Tanaka(2B)- 3 for 5.  BA= .412.
Francisco Peguero(RF)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .441.
Roger Kieschnick(LF)- 1 for 4, HR(2).  BA= .333.
Mike Kickham(LHP)- 4 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 4.00.
Jake Dunning(RHP)- 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 1.80.
Dan Runzler(LHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 0.00.
Heath Hembree(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(3).  ERA= 0.00

The CS bug is still biting Gary Brown.  I'll make a flat out prediction here:  We're going to see Heath Hembree pitching in SF before the season is done, barring injury, of courese.

AA  Trenton Thunder beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels 5-3 in a game completed after 8 innings due to rain:

Adam Duvall(3B)- 1 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .375.
Andrew Susac(C)- 2 for 3, 2 2B, BB.  BA= .360.
Justin Fitzgerald(RHP)- 4.2 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 2.25.

Duvall and Susac continue to supply the offense for the Squirrels.  Fitzgerald pitched OK in a short outing.

High A  Visalia Rawhide whipped the San Jose Giants 12-6:

Shawn Payne(LF)- 1 for 3, 2 BB, SB(2).  BA= .265.
Ryan Cavan(3B)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .350.
Kyle Crick(RHP)- 3.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 1.17.

Crick threw 87 pitches in his 3.2 innings of work.

Low A  Charleston River Dogs outlasted the Augusta Greenjackets 2-1 in 11 innings:

Benjamin Turner(1B)- 1 for 2, 2B, 2 BB.  BA= .292.
Tyler Hollick(LF)- 2 for 4.  BA= .211.
Chris Stratton(RHP)- 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 0.90.
Mason McVay(LHP)- 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 1.29.
Brandon Farley(RHP)- 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.18.

A little more dominance from Stratton in his second start.

  1. McVay gets a blown save and his first run scored against in the Sally on a Patrick O'Brien solo blast. Early going but 9K/1BB/3H in 7 IP for a LEFTY and a tall one at that? I like this guy. That Yankee team is interesting - O'Brien, Bichette, Dugas and Refsnyder. Our pitching is better than theirs by a long shot because Ty Hensley isn't there to match up with Stratton and they don't have a bunch of flamethrowers in the pen. Glad Stratton got a solid game under his belt.

Duvall and Susac flashing patience as well! Javier Herrera has cooled down, Panik is struggling. Ricky O got a knock 2 games in a row. Speaking of power guys, Williamson back on for 2 days straight, he's k/bb'd once each both games. Got a knock as well last night.

  3. Is Susac the heir apparent to Buster Posey?

    1. Susac is definitely the next starting catcher prospect in the system and I believe he was drafted in part because the Giants were concerned about how long Buster might remain behind the plate.
