  1. Schroder - he plays 3B and 2B?

He seems to have come out of nowhere; I don't remember if he was listed in the top 50 prospects.

    1. I think Schroder was a catcher last year. He's got great size with a lot more athleticism than most catchers. I think he's a legitimate sleeper prospect.

The other guy at SJ who has flown completely under the radar and who I think may be a prospect is Elliott Blair.

    2. From what I recall, Schroeder played catcher when he was not playing the piano with his bust of Beethoven or avoiding Lucy. :^)

    3. Schroeder was a 27th round pick in 2007. Does anyone know why he didn't play minor league ball until 2011? He essentially sat out for 3 seasons.

    4. Probably drafted out of HS in 2007.

    5. Yes, you are probably right (although based on his age, probably JC). He is listed as one of ten players from the 2007 draft that did not sign. Interesting enough, of the remaining nine unsigned players, one is Drew Bowlin, who is a relief pitcher on the San Jose roster, another is Ryan Verdugo, and one more, Andrew Barbosa.

  2. Panik is rocking a 288/374/363 in the big bad eastern, good for a 736 OPS. While it'd be nice for more gap power, that OBP and the 11BB/7K is what is important. Come on average joe, keep up the good work and add some doublez! 7 Ks in 92 PAs. ELITE contact rate. ELITE. I see all of these utility infielder comps and I says: way too early to write that book. Moves to 2B, his arm is going to be plus there. Just plays the game well. Grind it out, move on up.

Now what the hell is going on with Gary Brown?

    1. Gary Brown seems to be regressing in a lot of ways. Whether it is just that he's not progressed and now faces tougher competition or he has really regressed is hard to say, but how can you go from stealing 50+ bases in a season to getting thrown out the majority of the time is close to incomprehensible to me.

Whatever is going on, I'm starting to believe it is not good!

    2. Also elite is getting more walks than strikeouts. I totally agree he should not be written off, just like Noonan.

    3. I remember some comments about Brown not being fully open to coaching, and getting away with it with his super skills and athleticism. Maybe it is catching up to him.
And maybe he will be listening more after he fails.

Does anyone else remember something like this or am I making this up?

    4. There have been hints and rumblings about Brown, his approach and willingness to change out there.
