Down on the Farm: BA's Cal League Top 20

3 Giants made the list:

2. Brandon Belt- League's best pure hitter. The Giants have improved his swing. Stands more upright, doesn't cut off swing. Quick hands and smooth stroke to square up the balls. Controls the strike zone well. Most of current power goes to opposite field, but should generate more pull power as he gains strength and experience. Solid defender at first. Enough athleticism and arm strength to play an OF corner. Average speed, smart baserunner.

11. Francisco Peguero- Goes from right side of plate to first in 4.0 seconds. Range to play CF and arm to play RF. Free swinger who can put bad balls in play. Struggled with breaking pitches early, but made adjustments. Ball jumps off his bat. A more disciplined approach could result in more power down the road. (Peguero is wiry strong, like a bigger version of Eugenio Velez. He should be easily able to hit for more power with better plate discipline).

13. Ehire Adrianza- Defensive ability to be a big league SS, if he can hit enough. Best defensive SS in the league. Above average range, quick hands, strong arm. No errors after July 31. Tries to make up for slight stature and lack of strength with a big swing that gets too long. Good strike zone judgement, but gets pull conscious. Brian Harper says, "he will develop into a good hitter as he matures physically.....he has a good body to get stronger." (I'll add that I agree he has a very projectable body. 6'1" is fairly tall for a SS and he should be able to easily add 20-30 lbs to his current 165 over time).

Not too much in the Chat about the Giants(Josh Leventhal):

Heard good things about Juan Perez. Kind of vague comments though.

Charlie Culberson- good arm and good range for 2B.

BTW: Congrats to Roy Halladay on the no-no. Enjoy it Roy. You can remember it after the Giants beat you in the NLCS! Just kidding, Roy!
