Down on the Farm: 5/4/2022

 AAA:  Las Vegas Aviators shut down the Sacramento River Cats 5-0:

Nothing to see here.  Lamonte Wade Jr RF and Evan Longoria DH went a combined 0 for 8.  Tommy La Stella 2B/UT DNP.

AA:  Richmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Akron Rubber Ducks 7-3:

Michael Gigliotti CF- 1 for 4, 2 SB(6).  BA= .277.
Frankie Tostado 1B- 1 for 4, HR(3).  BA= .346.
Tyler Fitzgerald SS- 1 for 3, HR(3), BB.  BA= .153.
Bryan Brickhouse RHP- 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 6.46.

Tostado extends his hitting streak to 10 games.

A+:  Eugene Emeralds outscored the Hillsboro Hops 7-6:

Jairo Pomares DH- 1 for 3, HR(2), BB.  BA= .229.
Hunter Bishop RF/CF- 1 for 4, HR(3).  BA= .123.
Casey Schmitt 3B- 2 for 4, 2 HR(5).  BA= .310.

Pomares and Bishop are still looking for traction.  Casey Schmitt has definitely found traction.  His prospect stock is taking on serious helium.

A:  San Jose Giants edged the Stockton Ports 3-2:

Vaun Brown LF- 2 for 4, HR(3), SB(7).  BA= .273.
Mason Black RHP- 4 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 2.89.
Mat Olsen RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.77.

  1. Bishop may need to go back to SJ to build some confidence. BA of .123 hurts my eyes.

  2. First Round is starting to feel like a Wasteland for Giants.

    After that insane run 2007-9 (Bum, Posey, Wheeler), they haven't done much.

    2010-15: Brown, Crick, Panik, Stratton, Arroyo, Beede, Shaw, Bickford

    2016, no first round pick. Awesome to pick up Reynolds with their first pick in the 2nd. Absolutely brutal, trading him.

    Too early to tell on 2017-2021: Ramos, Bart, Bishop, Bailey, Bednar.

    (Huh, last 4 pick's last names start with "B.") While it's too early on these guys, the returns have been far from dazzling. I don't think any of them is projecting to anything beyond average Major Leaguer at this point. A lot of caveats with the 2020 suspension of the minor leagues, etc. And everything below, say, the first 5 picks in the 1st is a crapshoot. But it has been a long drought.
