Tyler Beede had a dominant start cut short by an injury, but Mauricio Dubon led a sustained offensive attack to a series win. Key Lines:
Mauricio Dubon SS- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(4). BA= .280. Dubon went 5 for 7 over his last 2 games to raise his BA from .244. I'm still a bit of a skeptic on the bat but the ceiling is so high, the Giants need to give him the chance to reach it. Starting 2B Opening Day 2020!
Kevin Pillar CF- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .260. Pillar has just 1 year of control left. He's had a career year for HR's and is finally getting credit for above replacement D, but fWAR hates his low OBP.
Mike Yastrzemski PH/LF/RF- 2 for 3, 2B, HR(21). BA= .274. The HR was a bomb that landed on top of the wall above Triples alley. The double should have been an out for a good CF. Again, I'm a still a bit of a skeptic on YtY's sustainability but let's see if we can get a few years out of that sweet swing.
Cristhian Adames 2B- 1 for 2, 2B, 2 BB. BA= .350. On second thought, can Farhan find a way out of Crawford's contract and go into next season with Dubon at SS and Adames at 2B? Come on, Farhan! Do something that impresses me!
Tyler Beede RHP- 3.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 5.08. When I saw this line I feared the worst, but it was his final start of the season anyway and the oblique strain should not be a factor next spring.

YtY probably has the fair trade value and will most likely be on the decline before the Giants can add enough talent to win. For a team that is peaking in 2020-2021 and needs an OFer, he would be a gem.
ReplyDeletePillar is the Giants' defensive highlight reel in a recovery year for him (he peaked back in 2015) but at 31, what way will he go? How big of a raise will he get in arbitration from $5.8M?
If the Giants get something worthwhile for their best 2 tradeable assets, isn't now the time to do it or can Zaidi transform them into contenders next year?
Be careful what you wish for regarding a Crawford trade. That could mean a full blown rebuild is underway. I wouldn't sell Zaidi short making those type of trades if he wanted to. He traded Melancon and he also made a big trade getting rid of Matt Kemp's contract while with the dodgers. Then again Crawford s and Belts contracts might be too hard to move anyway for a lot of reasons. As I posted earlier I was mixed about what the Giants should have done at the trade deadline, so I was happy with the trades. I'm ok with how the season is turning out, Zaidi has made some nice moves to try and compete and rebuild at the same time, and their won loss record will be a little better then last year. Zaidi walked into a tough situation, which will not improve signicantly in 1 year. He has a lot to prove as to whether he can make the Giants relevant again, and hopefully he will be given enough time to make it happen!
ReplyDeleteRead a comment replying to a Schulman tweet that Pat Burrell said on NBC that Belt and Crawford have not worked hard enough to keep up their excellence ever since they got paid their big contracts. Belt has not made adjustments to hit the high fastball and Crawford has not worked hard enough to keep in good shape. I've suspected something like this all along, so not surprised. Don't like saying this since both have been part of great teams, but trading one or both of them might be good for all concerned. This is why Zaidi was brought in, to make needed changes.
