Down on the Farm: 06-25-2010

AAA Fresno Grizzlies defeated the Portland Beavers 5-1:

Brock Bond- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .295.
John Bowker- 2 for 4, BB. BA= .346.

Madison Bumgarner was a last minute scratch from this game and will be starting today against the mighty Red Sox in AT&T. Six relievers went 1 -2 innings each in this game and got the job done with a combined line of 9 IP, 11 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 6 k's.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels edged the Erie Seawolves 6-5:

Brandon Crawford- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .248.
Thomas Neal- 2 for 5. BA= .273.
Roger Kieschnick- 2 for 4, BB. BA= .245
Conor Gillaspie- 2 for 3, SF. BA= .246.
Juan Ciriaco- - 1 for 2, HR(1), 2 BB. BA= .276.
David Mixon- 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.07.
Tony Pena- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 2.58.
Rafael Cova- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.27.

Good to see multiple multi-hit games. Maybe the lads will all get hot at the same time?

High A Modesto Nuts edged the San Jose Giants 3-2:

Ehire Adrianza- 2 for 5, SB(18). BA= .260.
Francisco Peguero- 2 for 5, SB(24). BA= .274.
Charlie Culberson- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .318.
Kyle Nicholson- 7 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 12/1. ERA= 6.36.
David Quinowski- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 2.35.

Nicholson got knocked out of a promising start early his last time out. This time he got the QS. His game is obviously to keep the ball on the ground and minimize the walks.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets smothered the Kannapolis Intimidators 9-3:

Evan Crawford- 2 for 5, 2 2B. BA= .255.
Ryan Cavan- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .259.
Nick Liles- 3 for 5. BA= .321.
Chris Dominguez- 2 for 4. BA= .271.
Tommy Joseph- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .212.
Jorge Bucardo- 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 12/2. ERA= 1.96.

Nice to see some bats come alive here. Starting to get excited about what Jorge Bucardo might do at higher levels. He's still more of a GB pitcher than dominant pitcher though. I'll have to think about where to rank Nick Liles if he keeps this up all season.

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes exploded over the Boise Hawks 9-1:

Chris Lofton- 2 for 5. BA= .344.
Julio Izturis- 3 for 3, 2B, S, SB(2). BA= .400.
Jose Medina- 2 for 4. BA= .344.
Ryan Scoma- 2 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .409.
Alex Burg- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .250.
Carlos Quintana- 1 for 4, HR(1). BA= .321.
Edwin Escobar- 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 8 K's, GO/AO= 7/2. ERA= 2.45.

Love what Julio Izturis is doing. If only he was doing it as a SS! Strong game from Edwin Escobar the kid we got from Texas for......wait a minute! I can't even remember who we gave up for him. It was a rule 5 draftee who Texas wanted to keep.

Rookie AZL GIants edged the AZL Cubs 7-6:

Carlos Willoughby- 0 for 2, 2 HBP, SB(7). BA= .308.
Charles Jones- 1 for 1. BA= 1.000.
Wes Hobson- 2 for 4, 3B. BA= .462.
Sundrendy Windster- 3 for 4, HR(1), OF assist(2B). BA= .625.
Josh Lopez- 2 for 3, 2 2B. BA= .400.
Austin Fleet- 2.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 6.75.
Stephen Harrold- 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Stephen Shackleford- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 9.00.

All kinds of good stuff here! Willoughby does it the hard way, but the man is determined to get on base! Charles Jones makes his pro debut. Hobson probably needs to be re-assigned to a higher level. Big game for Windster who I would watch as a sleeper possibility. The Giants signed him for a sizable bonus about 3 years ago. He's progressed slowly, but has tools and can hit for a lot of power.

DSL Giants topped the Marlins 6-5:

Alberto Robles- 4 for 5. BA= .240.
Cesar Soto- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .204.
Joan Gregorio- 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.71.
