Down on the Farm: 06-11-2010

AAA Fresno Grizzlies defeated the Tacoma Rainiers 8-2:

Brock Bond- 1 for 3, BB, HBP. BA= .297. OBP= .422!

Brandon Medders- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.18.

Don't know what to make of Graham except that it's a small sample size and he's had hot streaks in the past.

AA Reading Phillies pounded the Richmond Flying Squirrels 11-5:

Darren Ford- 1 for 5, HR(4). BA= .235
Skyler Stromsmoe- 3 for 5, 3B, SB(4). BA= .333.
Thomas Neal- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .272.

Stromsmoe is a similar player to Tyler Graham with a similar history. Neal is hitting .342 over his last 10 games.

High A San Jose Giants blanked the Bakersfield Blaze 4-0:

Ehire Adrianza- 1 for 3, 3B, BB. BA= .252.
Charlie Culberson- 2 for 3, HR(8), BB. BA= .295.
Craig Westcott- 6.2 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 1.23.
Kyle Woodruff- 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 2.89.

Culberson is showing up in the highlights almost daily for quite awhile now. Westcott has been dominant so far.

Low A Hickory Crawdads edged the Augusta Greenjackets 2-1:

Luke Anders- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .286.
Chris Heston- 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 5.74.
Andy Reichard- 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 0.00.

Reichard must be on a rehab assignment. He started the season in San Jose's rotation, got pounded and disappeared for awhile.

DSL(game 1) Mets beat the Giants 5-1:

Marvin Barrios- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. First appearance for the 17 yo bonus baby.

DSLl(game 2) Mets edged the Giants 4-3:

Leonardo Fuentes- 1 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .229.
Renzo Freite- 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.29. Don't have a BD on him, but he's new this year.

Right now, I'm aiming to go to the SJ Giants game at High Desert this coming Wednesday night.

  1. I was going to comment on Culberson before I saw you already did. Now I do not have to mention him in my comment...

Neal has really turned it on. VERY nice to see him rebound from a rough start. Maybe he is back to his prospect-ways...

  2. I'm looking forward to seeing Juan Perez, Brandon Belt, Francisco Peguero and Charlie Culberson in person as well as any starting pitcher not named Kyle Nicholson,I hope, up in High Desert next week. I'm thinking Culberson's breakout might be the biggest story in the Giants minor league system this year.

  3. I would think Belt would be it. Culberson is definitely the best comeback.

Thanks again for the great reviews and commentary, I am really enjoying the minors this season. You provide a nice perspective, current and historic.

Plus this gives a nice place to go to just chat on prospects without, you know, all that other stuff.
