Down on the Farm: 06-23-2010

AAA Game 1 Portland Beavers edged the Fresno Grizzlies 2-1:

Brett Pill- 2 for 3. BA= .301.
Eric Hacker- 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 4.17.

Best game from Hacker in awhile. Too bad in a losing cause.

AAA Game 2 Portland Beavers topped the Fresno Grizzlies 2-1:

Oliver Odle- 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's, GO/AO= 9/3. ERA= 0.00.

Odle looked good in relief Saturday night for San Jose against Lake Elsinore. This is his AAA debut. We'll see if it becomes a permanent gig. Hopefully he replaces Matt Kinney in the rotation.

AA Akron Aeros defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 5-4:

Michael Ambort- 2 for 3, 2B, 3B, BB. BA= .246.
Clay Timpner- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(1). BA= .300.

Ambort is hitting .359 with a .590 SLG% over his last 10 games.

High A Cal League was idle.

Low A SAL was idle.

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes erupted for an 11-0 win over the Boise Hawks:

Chris Lofton- 3 for 4, BB. BA= .273.
Jose Medina- 3 for 4, BB. BA= .320.
Jeff Arnold- 3 for 5, 2B. BA= .273.
Carlos Quintana- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .350.
Taylor Rogers- 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, GO/AO= 12/4. ERA= 4.35.

Just a bit of a difference from his last game for Taylor. Good to see some bats come alive up there in the northwest!

Rookie AZL Giants topped the AZL Cubs 5-3:

Carlos Willoughby- 1 for 2, 2 BB, 3 SB(4).
Josh Lopez- 1 for 3, HR(1). BA= .286.
Stephen Harrold- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Rafael Martinez- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.

The thing I like about Willoughby is he seems to understand the importance of getting on base in order to utilize his speed. Maybe he can become what I once dreamed of Marcus Sanders becoming? THis is Josh Lopez' 4'th season in the AZL. He's 21 yo. Rafael Martinez gets the promotion to the states after 4 years in the DSL.

DSL The entire league was rained out.

  1. I always had high hopes for Marcus sanders too. I will be following Willoughsby closely. Thanks for the comparison and reminder

  2. Shocked to see Odle make the jump to AAA. He has not been on my radar this season and his SJ line is not overly impressive (although his low BB are pretty decent -- 8 in 53 IP).

Looks like Timpner's career comeback has fallen back to Earth.

    The Volcanoes "erupted"? Really?
