Blogger's Note

Hey team! I'm going away for a long weekend road trip.  Back on Monday night or Tuesday.  I'll leave with this thought:

So far FZ has already brought back WilmerCrawford and La Stella are under contract.  It seems he wants to bring back Longo, Joc and YtY and presumably Davis and EstradaBelt wants to come back and the consensus of The Beats is FZ wants him back too....at least at the right price.  I get that each of these players may be a "bargain" in a vacuum but doesn't that also mean we pretty much have the same team next year?

  1. Have a great long weekend Doc! Agreed, FZ has said he can't see adding to the group either if they bring everyone back. I think it means that while they have Flores, Crawford, Lastella under contract, they haven't made a decision yet on players like Longo, Belt, Yaz and Joc on bringing them back or not. FZ saying he wants to bring these players back, doesn't mean it's going to happen.

  2. IMHO:
Longo- No, buy out remainder of contract (there is some sense in just pay him his $13M as the Giants will have to pay $5M to buy him out, so essentially he is $8M....I still say turn the page)
Joc- Yes, pay him for what he brings to the team though, as a LH platoon player
YtY- No- He has a .669 OPS. I have noticed that many of the late blooming guys are also early faders. Yaz is fulfiling that paradigm
JD Davis-Yes at 29 years old, I would guess he has a run of a few good years ahead of him
Thairo- Super utility guy or your everyday 2nd baseman
Belt-No. He has aged out and way too injury prone.

  3. Sign Aaron Judge and strengthen the bullpen

  4. After a thorough trouncing by the Hated Ones at home, the Giants have a relatively soft schedule to close the season, so, perhaps a 12-4 final run to .500 isn't impossible, only highly improbable.
If that, or even a credible 10-6 finish would probably encourage the "brains" not to clean house but to bring back most of the failures that lost 30+ games from the inexplicable 2021 team.
Even signing Judge (or a strong RHB OFer) and one of the top 3 SS's plus a frontline SP won't make up the "30" but could, with reasonable luck (not the non-luck of 2022), get 20 more wins and be a credible team.
Trotting out 80 or more % of 2022's aging vets without some high value younger blood will struggle to be credible and play tag with 3 million fans in attendance.

  5. Play tag with 30,000 game attendance...
