Spring Training Game Wrap: Guardians 10 Giants 2

Anthony DeSclafani RHP opened the game with 3 shutout innings and Mike Yastrzemski OF hit a 2-run HR.  The rest of the game was quite forgettable.

Tyler Beede RHP made his second spring appearance.  His first inning was perfect and he reportedly sat at 97-98 MPH on his fastball.  The second inning of work did not go so well and he ended up allowing 4 ER in 1.2 IP.

Sammy Long LHP may have earned himself a little more rope with 4 K's in 2 shutout IP.

Alex Wood LHP makes his second spring start tomorrow afternoon in Scottsdale facing the Reds and young flamethrower Hunter Greene RHP.

  1. I guess there's no harm in keeping Beede around to see if he ever puts it together, but boyo it feels like 4 years ago that he was in his 3rd or 4th year in the minors, and it was almost starkly clear at that time: This guy is never going to come around.

Here are we...wow, 8 years after Beede was drafted as a Junior out of college, and he's still getting ripped as though it's his first camp. It's one thing to allow too many base hits, walks, etc. But, with all his talent, I think it's probably about time to let this 1st round draft pick go and try to make it somewhere else. He's got 3 years and more than 100 innings in the MLB, and there are very few signs that he's getting better over time. Honestly, I'll never trust the kid in a big situation, unless something drastic changes...

Shame too. Had high hopes for him, with all the confidence and releasing an album early in his minors..lol! Good luck kid!

    1. I still believe in Beede's ceiling, but yeah, his time with the Giants is running out. 28-man roster may temporarily extend it but no way he sticks on a 26 man roster. His ceiling may have to come with another organization, sad to say.
