Spring Training Game Wrap: D'Backs 5 Giants 3

Logan Webb RHP extended to 3 IP and Joey Bart C hit his first spring HR, but the Giants hitters continued to struggle in another spring loss.

Logan Webb RHP allowed a run in the first inning but struck out 5 batters in 3 IP.

Joey Bart C 's two run bomb was the Giants first hit of the game in the 5'th inning.  Here's hoping it's the first of many this season.

Jake McGee LHP, Tyler Rogers RHP and Dominic Leone RHP made their first appearances of the spring with Rogers and Leone allowing a run in 1 IP each.

New developments in the CBA:

Much to the outrage of many fans who thought they were done with the extra-inning "ghost runner" rule, it's baaaaccck!  It's apparently quite popular with the players.  While it takes some getting used to, I think it is actually good for the game.  Marathon games of 14-18 innings have become more common.  They are exhausting for both players and fans.  I am one of the most dedicated baseball fans you will ever see and 18 inning games are excruciating to watch, even in a postseason game.  The "ghost runner" rule is proven to end extra-inning games more quickly which is a huge positive by itself.  It also creates interesting strategies.  People who like the double-switch should love the "ghost runner" rule!

Rosters will expand to 28 players for at least the first month of the season with no limits on number of pitchers. Expanded rosters will likely give the Giants an advantage because their system is so matchup based.  I would like to see permanent 28-man rosters but with a limit of 14 pitchers.

Lastly, we have the "Ohtani Rule".  If the pitcher is in the lineup, they can continue as DH when they come out of the game.  Good rule!

  1. I think I like the Ghost runner rule. I don't imagine it will ever go back to the old rules of extra inning games.
