Spring Training Game Wrap: Brewers 5 Giants 2

The biggest Giants news of the day occurred off the field but they played another spring training game and lost another spring training game.

Logan Webb RHP- 4 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 6.2.

Webb's peripherals looked good but he was touched for two 2-run HR's off the bats of Willy Adames SS and Rowdy Tellez 1B.  When you are facing Corbin Burnes RHP, that's not going to get it done.   Kap named Webb his Opening Day SP after the game.

Lamont Wade Jr led off the game with a double and scored the first run but did not take the field in the bottom of the inning.  There were ominous reports on Twitter about him leaving the stadium and requiring assistance to climb a stairs.  My first thought was a hammy which can mean a prolonged IL stint but postgame reports had him tweaking his knee and the outlook is favorable.  This is not the way we want the Giants to resolve their roster dilemmas!

Arquemides Gamboa 2B hit his second HR of the spring for the Giants other run.  The Giants seem to be giving him a long look.  Could he be competing for a roster spot?  Maybe showcased for a trade?  He's hitting just .154.

Carlos Rodon LHP makes his second spring start tomorrow afternoon facing Mike Clevinger RHP and the Padres in Scottsdale.

Now for the really bad news.  I had a bad feeling when I learned that Evan Longoria's absence from the lineup was due to a lingering finger injury from last season.  Turns out that feeling was well founded and he will undergo surgery to repair a tendon in the finger.  Yikes!  That does not sound like something likely to heal quickly.  Kris Bryant would sure look mighty fine in a Giants uniform right about now!

Potential replacements currently on the 40-man roster include Wilmer Flores, Mauricio Dubon, Thairo Estrada, Jason Vosler, Luke Williams and Tommy La Stella who has injury issues of his own.  At least La Stella is scheduled to see his first spring training action as DH tomorrow.  Non-roster options might include David Villar and Alex Blandino who has had an impressive spring so far.
