Spring Training Game Wrap: Giants 6 Angels 1

Alex Cobb RHP gave Giants fans another reason to be optimistic about the Giants starting rotation with 3.1 shutout IP against his former teammates.

Cobb struck out 3 batters and got 5 GB outs.  3 walks was the only indication of rustiness.  Cobb generally has low WHIPs so this is not a big concern going forward.

Camilo Doval RHP wowed the Angels announcing team with a blazing fastball.  Doval gave up a leadoff double to David Fletcher then struck out the side around a WP to leave the runner stranded at 3B.  IMO, key to Doval taking the next step to greatness is trusting the FB, which he appeared to do in this appearance.

Mauricio Dubon 2B/SS drove in the Giants first two runs with a bomb to LF after putting a beautiful swing on the ball.  Swings like that are what excited Giants fans in 2020.  We didn't see too many of those last year.

Heliot Ramos OF continued to impress with a double and walk in two PA's.  He's hitting .500 on the spring.

Got a look at Frankie Tostado 1B who came up inches short of a HR on a ball that went just over the RF glove to hit off the top of the OF wall.  Tostado looked like he has a little speed rounding 2B on the telecast.

Sean Hjelle RHP was impressive in two innings of work.  He got 2 K's and 3 GB outs.  His over-the-top delivery from a 6'11" frame produces extreme downward plane and his pitches have extra sink as they approach home plate.  He did give up a triple that scored on another GB out, overall an impressive performance.  He looked like he could pitch in the majors sometime this season.

New acquistion Taylor Williams RHP breezed through the 9'th inning. with 2 K's.

Logan Webb RHP makes his third spring start tomorrow afternoon against the Brewers and Corbin Burnes  RHP in Phoenix.  Those two might be 2 of the 3 best "stuff" guys in all of baseball(Jake DeGrom being the other).
