Johnny Cueto got a Quality Start in while Brandon Belt continued to prep for a breakout season as the Giants topped the KC Royals in home half of a split-squad day in Scottsdale. Key Lines:
Brandon Belt 1B- 1 for 4, HR(5). BA= .417. Belt pulled the HR into the back field at the Giants complex. Big season coming up for The Belter if he can stay healthy.
Jarrett Parker RF- 1 for 3, BB. BA= .242. Parker continues to stay relevant in the reserve OF competition.
Trevor Brown C- 1 for 3. BA= .355. Brown continues to look like the reserve catcher to start the season.
Conor Gillaspie 3B- 1 for 2, HR(2), BB. BA= .324. And Gillaspie continues to state his case for a reserve IF role.
Ehire Adrianza SS- 2 for 3, SB(1). BA= .353. If I had to guess right now, I'd say Adrianza and Gillaspie are the reserve IF's on Opening Day.
Gorkys Hernandez PH-LF- 2 for 2, 2B. BA= .318. Hernandez is definitely not folding his tents in the race for reserve OF. It's coming down to Parker vs Gorkys.
Johnny Cueto RHP- 6 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 9.58. Cueto's last start was in a minor league game where he reportedly looked good. This was one of the better starts for a Giants pitcher this spring. I don't think we have to worry about Cueto right now.
George Kontos RHP- 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 4.70. After what he did last year, is Kontos having to compete for a bullpen spot?
Derek Law RHP- 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 6.75. Law had a rough time earlier in the spring. This line looks better.
Sergio Romo RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 1.80. Romo looks to be in midseason form, which is a bit unusual for him in the spring. Maybe he wants that closer job back?
