Rookie AZL  Giants downed the Mariners 7-6:

Dillon Dobson(1B)- 3 for 4, 3B, BB.  BA= .300.

DSL  Giants beat the Dodgers 4-2:

Mecky Coronado(DH, 18 yo)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .379.

Reymi Rodriguez(RHP, 20 yo)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.27.

Beicker Mendoza is coming on strong in the second half.  I like his size at 6'2", 185 lbs.  Will the Giants ever find a place for Mecky Coronado to play?  He certainly seems to have the hitting thing down.  Not sure what to make of these older pitchers who showed up with no apparent prior DSL experience.

  1. What happened to Tyler Horan? I think most of us expected him to jump up the prospect list but his season has been mostly terrible. 11 HR in 64 games is pretty decent but everything else is a big mess. I really hope in the off season he figures out whatever is troubling him. He is a left handed power hitter so maybe Mr. Bonds can pay him a visit.

  2. Great to see Dylan Davis actually produce at the plate. Will be interesting to see if he carries it into next year in SJ.

  3. Kelvin Beltre got HBP last night and was removed from the game. He was replaced at 2B by Tyler Brown... Who, as fate would have it... singles in the bottom of the 9th inning of a tie game and eventually scores the game-winning run (on a walk-off single by Byron Murray). Sometimes baseball is just crazy like that, huh? Sure hope Kelvin Beltre is alright. I really like the way he plays, nice swing, athleticism, and some projection IMO. Just after Mikey Edie returns from being out a week- from a HBP on 7/26. Dang.

Then, I was checking the SJ roster... 27th rounder Bryan Case got fast tracked from AZL to SJ after only FOUR pro games. I thought he was DL'ed, but he's listed as active, but hasn't played. But wait, what?! Aramis Garcia? I check transactions, and sure enough- he's been promoted to San Jose. They've now got a gaggle of catchers in SJ: Jeff Arnold, Aramis Garcia, Ty Ross, and Bryan Case. Doesn't look like anybody has yet been promoted to Richmond. Can't imagine that Zambrano or Williams is blocking anybody. We'll see. I'd imagine they might want one of these catching prospects to work with our young Richmond talent? I dunno.

  4. I believe that Doc B mentioned that Jeff Arnold sustained injury recently. Reading the tea leaves, it gotta be Ty Ross moving up to Richmond.
