High A  San Jose Giants cracked the Modesto Nuts 5-1:

Christian Arroyo(SS)- 2 for 4, SB(5).  BA= .328.
Ryder Jones(3B)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .274.

Impressive seasons at SJ for Arroyo and Jones, especially Arroyo.  I guess the Giants don't have to worry about this until 2017 at the earliest, but where is Arroyo going to play?  Ysla seems to be turning his season around as we grind down to the end.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets outslugged and outscored the Lexington Legends 16-14:

Johneshwy Fargas(CF)- 3 for 6, 2B, BB, SB(54).  BA= .288.

Dusten Knight(RHP)- 5.1 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 1.39.

Nice breakout seasons for Fargas and Arenado.  Garcia coming on strong.  Dylan Davis and Andrew Cain are on hot streaks.  Anxious to see what this group does in SJ next year.  Second start in a row where Coonrod failed to reach 2 IP after being dominant for so long.  Hopefully he's no hiding an injury.

Be sure to check out an article in BA from yesterday entitled Fastball Command the Key for Tyler Beede.  It goes into an in-depth analysis of his stuff.  If you are like me, you will be both encouraged and discouraged by what you read.  I would say more encouraged though.  Sounds like he is very much still a work in progress, but still has a bright future.

  1. I have been a big believer in Juan Perez for a long time. I'm still holding onto *a little* bit of that hope. He hit 37 HR and stole 29 bases in a Juco 64-game season, batting .465 with 102 RBI. As a college freshman. Started this 2015 AAA season something like .100 avg/.300 ops for his first 10 games. But his most recent 3 games? .583/.583/1.333/1.917, 3 HR, 6 RBI. His current AAA stint, he's only had one game (of 15 G) without at least one hit: .369/.379/.646/1.025. 5 2B, 2 3B, 3 HR. Seems like so much of his performance is predicated on whether he can keep those doubles/triples fair down the 3B line. He can really turn on those inside pitches- often too quickly and he drives them just foul. And his defense has slipped some this season, too. A few egregious errors, even though he's also got 7 OF assists.

Anyways, we just might need him back up in SF. Is Pagan about to go on the DL? Sure hope Blanco didn't injure his elbow last night on the HBP. Is Aoki's leg okay? Pence's wrist? Geez. Who would get the call? Perez? Engel Beltre? Mac Williamson? Oh, and Dusten Knight is one of our pitchers having a killer season. Cheers.

    1. I'd rather try Lollis again. Not that I have stars in my eyes about him, but he's hitting much, much better, making far fewer errors, and walks almost as much as he strikes out so what heck... Plus he's got decent range, decent glove skills and the Front Office called him up instead of Perez in July.

  2. On where Arroyo should play, well, I think it would be a good idea for him to get some time in the outfield next year. There was also talk when he was drafted that he looked like he might fit at catcher, but it seems a little late to start that drill. Still, as Panik's current back trouble reminds us, the human body has plenty of frailties and one never knows what openings may arise in the infield in 2017.
