Blade Tidwell RHP- 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 9 K's. ERA= 3.60.
Nice games for trade deadline acquisitions Gilbert and Tidwell. I watched a video on The Youtube today by the guys from Prospects Live. They absolutely torched Buster Posey's trade deadline moves in particular and his POBO tenure in general. I think some of the founders of Prospects Live were/are Giants fans. I was kind of shocked because I liked Buster's deadline moves and think he got some interesting players in return, including Gilbert and Tidwell. Although Jose Butto' is not as good right now as Tyler Rogers, he has many years of contract control and a straight up trade for him would not have been a terrible trade. Add in Gilbert and Tidwell and it's an impressive haul. Camilo Doval has 2 years of control left so his return was not as impressive but I really, really like Carlos De La Rosa, the 17 yo lefty whose ceiling is sky high and might just end up being the best player out of all 3 trades. As for Buster's overall performance as POBO, I'll defer that to later. Perhaps we'll do a 1 year review after the season ends. I will just say I like his boldness and decisiveness but I do have concerns about the long term risk he's taken on with several big contracts.
AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels edged out the Erie Seawolves 1-0.

Austin Strickland RHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 4.67.
Damian Bravo was a 15'th round draft pick this year out of Texas Tech. Interesting initial placement in A+. This was Dylan Carmouche's second scoreless start in a row covering 13 innings. He allowed 1 run in 5.1 IP in his previous start so 1 run in his last 16.1 IP.
A: San Jose Giants crushed the Visalia Rawhide 13-0.

Jeremiah Jenkins 1B- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .243.
Daniel Rogers C- 1 for 4. BA= .250.
Hunter Dryden RHP- 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 2.33.

Fernando Vasquez RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.
A lot going on here. Draftees Kilen and Cohen come online. Daniel Rogers is a UDFA from this cycle. And whoa! A Ryan Murphy sighting! I had completely forgotten him.
DSL: Mets Orange outscored Giants Orange 13-10.
Miguel Caraballo C(16 yo)- 2 for 4, 3B, BB. BA= .271.

DSL: Arizona Red smashed Giants Black 16-0.
As you might guess, there is absolutely nothing to see here.
Yep, I'm afraid Posey as POBO will be tied forever to Chapman's contract, although it was under Farhan's watch the deal was done. Farhan reportedly wasn't hung up on the length or cost, just the no-trade clause. So, I think there's going to be plenty of blame to go around if things don't work out well over the next several years.
ReplyDeleteI saw that Johnny Level played second base and Killion was at shortstop and Level scored 4 runs last night. At only 18 he is really holding his own in A ball
ReplyDeleteDakota Jordan leads the California League with 82 RBI and is second in BA , behind Carlos Guitterez his teammate, hitting.317, first in hits with 113 and tied for first in HR with 14. Why isn't this gut playing in Eugene?
ReplyDeleteGood question. Not sure what else Jordan has to prove in San Jose.
DeleteJordan was know as a super raw prospect. K rate and BB rate look good. Maybe they just want to let him get a full season of stability to build on.
DeleteThey're aren't necessarily spots for him in Eugene? Guy plays CF for SJ right now and Cox plays there for Eugene. Both guys have values tired to their ability to play CF with the offensive skill sets.
DeleteNot everyone needs to move up. Next year we'll see if it hampered Jordan relative to Bo D or Jean Carlos Sio!
In defense of the three players signed to long term contracts, they are all good clubhouse teammates/leaders who will not devolve into clubhouse cancers as their skills and playing time lessen over the years. They will give it everything they have to help the team rather than riding out their contracts.
ReplyDeleteYes, and Chapman and Adames are both on track to finish with close to career-average seasons. Devers has had his career disrupted all season. Hoping he will be settled in and be closer to his career averages next year.
DeleteIt appears as if Eldridge is mastering AAA. Slow start, but more consistent now. I don't know if it's streakiness. I say let him sit there the rest of the season. See how he does. Perhaps he could be due for a MLB roster slot next season.
ReplyDeleteDoc this is 2025 where major league players make insanse amounts of money. You can’t build a yearly winner without taking on big contacts. Guys that produce consistently will get paid. Even though Devers and Adames aren’t playing like all-stars and neither is Chapman, they are clearly the teams best hitters in addition to youngster Ramos. If they didn’t go out and a pay for those guys the team would be so much worse. What’s important is to supplement the bigger contracts with young talent, which Posey is 100% trying to do.
ReplyDeleteI understand all that. It remains important to invest all that huge amount of money in the right players. I am encouraged that Chapman and Adames are playing well and I think Devers will come around, especially after he has an offseason to meditate and come to terms with the chaos he dealt with this year, but it's still an open question whether these aggressive moves by Buster were the right ones.
