Down on the Farm: 8/31/2018

AAA  Las Vegas 51's destroyed the Sacramento Left Behinds 11-2:

Josh Osich LHP- 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 5.04.
Steven Okert LHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 4.55.

The O'boys are pitching to save their 40 man roster spots.  Seriously, this is one strip-mined roster they have in Sacramento this weekend!

AA  Harrisburg Senators outlasted the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-3(10 Innings):

Luigi Rodriguez RF- 1 for 4, HR(14).  BA= .266.
Matt Winn C- 1 for 3, HR(1).  BA= .273.
Dusten Knight RHP- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.65.

Another fairly ravaged roster.  Dusten Knight walked in an inherited runner in the 7'th inning before pitching a scoreless 8'th.

A+  Modesto Nuts covered the San Jose Giants 3-1:

Jacob Heyward DH- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .259.
Wander Franco the Elder 3B- 2 for 4.  BA= .279.
DJ Myers RHP- 5.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 4.86.
Joey Marciano LHP- 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 8.70.

Low A  Columbia Fireflies blanked the Augusta Greenjackets 4-0(completion of Suspended game from 7/29):

Garrett Cave RHP- 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 4.72.
Orleny Quiroz LHP- 3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.27.
John Russell RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 2.27.

*********************************************************************************

Low A Augusta Greenjackets turned the tables on the Columbia Fireflies 4-0(Regularly scheduled game, 7 Innings):

Aaron Phillips RHP- 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 11 K's.  ERA= 3.72.
JJ Santa Cruz LHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 2.30.

Abdiel Layer started the game at SS for his SAL debut.  Heliot Ramos' BA slipped to .246 making it unlikely if not impossible to reach .250 on the season, not that it really matters.  Aaron Phillips finishes the season with 120 K's and just 16 BB's in 101.2 IP.  He's just 21 yo, so not that old for the level and quite young for a 2017 college draftee. He's got nice size with some projectability at 6'5", 215 lbs.

Short Season  Eugene Emeralds topped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 7-3:

David Villar 3B- 2 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .281.
Aaron Bond CF- 1 for 4, HR(12).  BA= .270.
Seth Corry LHP- 3.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 5.49.

Joey Bart went 0 for 4 as his BA dipped below .300.  David Villar has matched him in power numbers.

  1. Encouraged by Heyman tweet that scouts like the players the Giants received in the Cutch trade. Avelino has a chance to be a starting infielder in the big leagues, if not utility infielder. DePaula is young, only 20 years old, and has a big arm. Giants farm system getting better with trade acquisitions, draft, and international signings.
