Game Wrap 6/5/2012: Padres 6 Giants 5

Frustrating game to watch.  Tim Lincecum had his by now obligatory bad inning in the 3'rd giving up a 4 spot.  The Giants offense picked him up in the later innnings building a 5-4 lead only to have the bullpen give it back in the endgame.  Key Lines:

Gregor Blanco- 3 for 5, 2B, 3B.  Love what this guy brings to the plate at the top of the lineup.  Sometimes does the Ichiro taking a running poke at the ball and counting on his speed and the head start to beat it out.

Ryan Theriot- 3 for 3, 2B, 2 BB, SB(2).  BA= .261.  Riot is on a tear. Raised his BA by about 30 points in one game.  Has really solidified the 2 hole for the Giants.

Buster Posey- 1 for 4, 2B, SF.  BA= .294.  Another day at the office for Buster.

Brandon Belt- 0 for 3, SF.  BA= .229.  Put together a good AB for the SF.  Keep running him out there.  I think he'll come around.

Brandon Crawford- 1 for 4, SB(1).  BA= .224.  Nice AB for the single.  Came around to score.

Tim Lincecum- 6 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 5.83.  Timmy was lights out after the third inning.  Bullpen was short, but given his recent history, pulling him after 102 pitches was the right move.

Steve Edlefsen- 0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 4.40.  It might be time to think about exchanging Edlefsen for Kontos in the bullpen.

With the Loss, the Giants dropped a game to the NL West leading Dodgers who edged the Phillies 2-1.

Madison Bumgarner takes on Clayton Richard at Petco tonight.

  1. Although Timmy isn't worth the 20 million we are paying him this year, Afflack is the one I will continue to rag on for making 5 million and sucking. I don't really care about his peripheral stats or how good he has been over the last month or so (unfair, sure), I hate this guy and last night was the reason why. He has great stuff and no brains to know not to throw a ball anywhere near the hottest hitter in the league. He thinks he can just go up there and throw that straight as an arrow fastball right in the zone and not pay the price.

    1. Did you even watch the game?!? Affeldt didn't throw Quentin a fastball or a strike. He threw him a curveball out of the strike zone. Quentin is just so strong he was able to golf it out of the park. I think 9/10 hitters (maybe more) hit that curveball on the ground or as a high flyout. Affeldt got beat on a good pitch, not a golfer ball.

    2. Sucking?

20.2 IP, 19 hits, 19K/6BB, > 3 K/BB, 1 HR (so first HR this season, if that is sucking then I hope we have a whole lot of suck.

Then I guess this guy sucks big time too: 23.1 IP, 19 hits, 20K/6BB, 3.3 K/BB, 3 HR. I don't know, I like Casilla pretty good.

  2. Timm'y start was in the right direction. Hopefully he carries the momentum forward into his next start.

Belt's swing looked good--the best he's had all season. And, he looked confident up there. He just needs to be run out there every game. I think it is just a matter of time before his slugging percentage starts to rise.
