The Giants scored the same number of of runs as they did Friday Night but this time it was enough as the pitchers shut down the Dodgers lineup. Key Lines:
Tyler Fitzgerald CF- 1 for 3, HR(2). BA= .250. Fitz is probably still in the "honeymoon phase" many rookies experience but it's nice to see for those of us who have rooted for him in the minors this season.
Tristan Beck RHP- 5 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.92. Kai didn't try to get a 6'th inning out of him and it seems like that was the right move. Beck has been solid this season in multiple roles and finishes with a sub-4 ERA. Was he auditioning for a rotation spot with the Giants next season or in a showcase for the Reds scouts?
Ryan Walker RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 3.23. Walker has also been solid when he wasn't gassed from overuse. Looks like he could be part of latter day "core four" bullpen crew for several years.
Camilo Doval RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(39). ERA= 2.93. Going into the final game of the season, Doval is the NL Saves leader by 1 over David Bednar. Let's hope he can get #40 today.
It's Brandon Crawford farewell day(probably). Kyle Harrison LHP get the final start against Bobby Miller RHP.
Churn Watch: Brandon Crawford SS comes off the 10-day IL to take his bows for what might be his final game in Giants uniform. Heliot Ramos OF gets optioned out to make room.
If anything could redeem 2023 AFTER being eliminated from post season, beating Kershaw is close...
ReplyDeleteEven when he didn't have his best curveball.
Finally giving Fitzgerald a chance, after trying EVERYONE ELSE, and tagging Mr K himself, another great moment.
Using the Giants ONLY 2023 strength wisely, their pitching, was nice, too.
OTOH, getting just 5 hits may be pathetic, but getting a couple of them at the right time (for a change) was SWEET.
The "bad" news from yesterday's win: Giants clinched Pick #13 in 2024 draft, a LA sweep could have moved them up 0ne.
ReplyDeleteOTOH, with pick in hand, closing the season with a win against T.H.O.'s secures the season series against THEM – the only NL West team to do so.
Plus, it also denies THEM their 100th win for the season.
There is reason to cheer, especially if Harrison shuts them down.
What slugger might Cincy give up for him, and would that be enough?
Happy to see the players give Kai Correa a beer shower in the locker room after his 1st win as a MLB manager. Nice to see someone born in Hawaii doing good. Heard he's highly regarded coach so if he's not picked up by the Giants new manager another team will. Hiring a good manager with credibility would be a good 1st step. I can't believe the Padres would be crazy enough to get Bob Melvin go. Fitz has power, speed, and plays multiple positions, Giants should give him a look in 2024. Bittersweet to see Brandon Crawford taking in his final game and 2023 coming to an end.
ReplyDeleteAs per Mike Krukow, Heliot Ramos appears to be a 4th or 5th outfielder at best. I think he will be moved. Another franchise will give him a fresh start. I wish him well. He had opportunities to at the at the MLB level and hit poorly. His .928 OPS in Sacramento might draw some attention.
