Kyle Harrison LHP was a late scratch due to an illness apparently circulating in the Giants clubhouse making it a bullpen game. It probably did not matter as the Giants mustered just 3 hits and 6 baserunners in the game.
Key Lines:
Maybe the biggest excitement of the game occurred in an apparent kerfuffle on the mound then Kap took Opener Brebbia out but it was reportedly part of a running gag Brebbs and Kap have going. Move along, nothing to see here.
Oh! And the Loss mathematically eliminated the Giants from postseason contention.
Sean Manaea LHP will try for a series win tomorrow evening facing Matt Waldron RHP.
Churn Watch:
With G-men in evaluation mode, why not just give the ball to Hjelle and throw him out there instead of another damn bullpen game?
ReplyDeletei suspect that harrison may have covid. they may need to taxi more people up.
ReplyDeletei know greg johnson has said that both zaidi and kapler are coming back next year but, from what's being reported about the clubhouse by webb, i wonder if johnson reconsiders keeping kapler. greg johnson needs to reconsider his approach about payroll this offseason and start creating a winning product instead of worrying about making a profit.
ReplyDeleteThere are many ways of looking at MLB finances and a lot we don't know because the owners continue to refuse to allow anyone to look at their books. Having said that, I hate the idea that a team has operate in the red if it wants to win. I continue to believe that a well-run organization can win while operating in the black, or at least while keeping payroll under the CBT threshold(my arbitrary payroll level for breaking even). That is what Giants ownership brought FZ in to do and what FZ sold himself as being able to do. I do agree that by this time next year it is fair to make a judgment whether FZ will ever deliver on that promise.
DeleteI also think its fair for ownership to ask some hard questions right now about why this season ended in chaos on almost all levels of the organization and phases of the game. To me that's more concerning than what their final W-L record is and could lead to some decisions before the end of next season.
Deletethey shouldn't go over the CBT but, if they can bring in veterans who can bring leadership in the clubhouse for the rookies, we can be a 90-win team in 2023. i wouldn't mind them signing a bellinger or double down on pitching with a blake snell and swing a trade for some outfielders with pop.
Deleteif ownership does decide to move on from kapler after this season, my two choices would be bob melvin and walt weiss. i do think walt weiss deserves another chance to manage and i like how atlanta runs their franchise.
DeleteAgree, bring in more veteran leadership and cut the 'bad apples' in the clubhouse loose because winning is not important enough to them. Becoming a bigger Logan Webb fan, he's not only a great pitcher and a true team leader.when it's reported that some players find playing a card game is more important then studying how to attack that games starting pitcher, that's upsetting to read.
DeleteKapler probably things there’s strategy and an edge that could be had from playing card games before a game. Don’t forget Kap said they should play MLB the show to gain an edge too
DeleteThe season end does rather feel like the Fall of Saigon.
ReplyDelete2024*
ReplyDeleteFZ has tried to get the Big Man, was willing to pay the price for Harper and Judge who both went somewhere else: maybe taxes but more likely the Park, although Judge just wanted to be a Yankee forever.
ReplyDeleteCorrea is a different question/answer. Probably a good thing.
The 2019 goal was to try to play interesting baseball until the pre-2019 depleted Farm could produce with a couple bangers from the outside.
It's right on schedule.
Kapler is another issue. FZ can work on numbers but Kapler has to work with players. Other than the 2021 Miracle on 3rd Street, he's been what he always was, a .500+/- button pusher who hasn't a feel for human players.
When you can't fire an entire team which is losing, you fire the Manager.
