Hot Stove League Review: Blue Jays

The Blue Jays have an up and coming young team with several potential superstars just getting started on their MLB careers.  It made sense for them to go after some veteran talent to give the kids some role models and possibly deflect some pressure developmental pressure.  The idea was good and while the acquisitions have potential, they also bring considerable risk, more than I might have made if I was the GM.  Key Moves:

Free Agents Lost:  Justin Smoak(1B), Ryan Tepera(RHP), Luke Maile(C), Richard Urena(IF), Derek Law(RHP), Jason Adam(RHP), Breyvic Valera(IF).

Free Agents Signed:  Hyun-Jin Ryu(LHP- 4 yr/$80 M), Tanner Roark(RHP- 2 yr/$24 M), Travis Shaw(IF), Rafael Dolis(RHP), Shun Yamaguchi(RHP-2 yr/$6.35 M + $1.27 Transfer Fee).

Trades:  Acquired Chase Anderson(RHP) from the Brewers for Chad Spanberger(1B).  Acquired cash considerations for Justin Shafer(RHP).

Waiver Claim:  Anthony Bass(RHP).

Minor League Free Agents:  Joe Panik(2B), AJ Cole(RHP), Justin Miller(RHP), Caleb Joseph(C), Marc Rzepczynski(LHP), Ryan Dull(RHP), Jake Petricka(RHP), Ruben Tejada(IF), Brian Moran(LHP), Patrick Kivlehan(OF/1B), Andy Burns(IF), Phillipe Aumont(RHP).

Summary:  Obviously the Blue Jays Hot Stove League season depends on Hyun-Jin Ryu, who was one of the best pitchers in baseball last season.  But.....he is 33 years old and the last time he pitched more than 127 innings was 2014 and that was 152 IP.
