Down on the Farm: 5/29/2013

AAA  Tucson Padres topped the Fresno Grizzlies 3-2:

Johnny Monell(1B)- 2 for 4, HR(8).  BA= .276.
Boof Bonser(RHP)- 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 5.86.
Jake Dunning(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.44.
Heath Hembree(RHP)- 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 4.03.

Hembree gives up the walk-off dinger.  Is it possible we might see Dunning in SF before Hembree?

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels pounded the New Britain Rock Cats 10-5:

Adam Duvall(3B)- 2 for 5, HR(4), HBP.  BA= .329.
Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .236.
Javier Herrera(LF)- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(6), BB.  BA= .297
Parker(.268), Panik(.293), Minicozzi(.350), Oropesa(.219)- 2 hits each.
Craig Westcott(RHP)- 6 IP,  8 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 3.88.
Jose Valdez(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.61.

Good to see Ricky back in the lineup. He had a collision with an opposing baserunner and got shook up a bit.  The other guy was carted off the field on a stretcher.  Hope the other guy is OK too.  Memo to opposing baserunners:  Do NOT run into Ricky Oropesa!

High A  Bakersfield Blaze defeated the San Jose Giants 6-4:

Chris Lofton(CF)- 2 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .284.
Angel Villalona(1B)- 1 for 4, HR(12).  BA= .235.

Angel V now has 4 dingers and 4 doubles in his last 10 games in which he is hitting .310.  The 4 dingers are actually in his last 4 games!

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets edged the Hickory Crawdads 2-1:

Trevor Brown(2B)- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .243.
Joe Biagini(RHP)- 6.2 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 9 K's, GO/AO= 8/1.  ERA= 4.03.
Tyler Mizenko(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, Save(13).  ERA= 0.76.

Biagini continues to be an interesting story.  The Giants have been unusually stubborn in developing him despite almost a total lack of pitching pedigree.

  1. AnVil is forging some nice numbers: since his early season adjustments to being a pro again (first ten games), he has hit .289/.320/.634/.954 (.293 BABIP) with 12 HR in 142 AB, though 34 K's leads to a poor 76% contact rate (though I think that is around where he has been in his pro career). Still, that is way better than his 16 K's in 41 AB to start the season (first ten games: 61% contact rate).

He seems to cluster homers: 4 in 4 games, 2 in four, 2 in three, 3 in two.

Do you think Monell could be our backup catcher in coming years? Or perhaps one of two, since he seems to be playing 1B, could take Pill's spot on roster.

  2. Surkamp to extended spring training on saturday! Good stuff, that's EARLY.

I think your prediction on Dunning might just come true.

Adrianza back as well as Ricky O. Wonder if Travious sticks or gets shuffled back to Augusta.
