Parks Harber breaks a 0 for 20 slump over his previous 5 games and a 1 for 32 over his last 8. Will Bednar has a game like this every once in awhile that makes you think there is still a prospect in there somewhere.

Drew Smith was the Giants 15'th round draft pick this year. Remember when Tim Lincecum's nickname was The Franchise? No pressure on the kid but the Giants have as much or more riding on Jackson Flora's success.
Traveled to Fresno from Visalia to get a look at our number one prospect and our top pitching prospect. Jackson Flora did not disappoint. His first fastball registered 96 MPH and after that he was throwing 97 and 98 MPH from both the windup and the stretch. He had difficulty getting any of his off-speed pitches over for strikes. He threw 28 pitches, only 14 were strikes. He looked a but frustrated coming off the mound. There was a large crowd, 8,801 in attendance. I wonder is this is one of the largest crowds he has pitched in front of? UC Santa Barbara's stadium holds maybe 1,500, Pepperdine 2,000, UC Davis 3,500.
ReplyDeleteThe other pitchers were hitting mainly 93 - 94 MPH with their fastballs. Melvin Pineda did hit 97 MPH. Eric Nachtsheim, the Giants' 6th round pick, made his debut with the SJ Giants. He pitched one inning, gave up two hits and one run. It shows on his stat sheet as an earned run, but it should not be. With a runner at first, who was running with the pitch, the batter hit a single to center, which center fielder Andy Polanco bobbled and let the ball get behind him, which allowed the runner to score. The runner would not have scored, but for that bobble.
Josuar Gonzalez did not look like our number one prospect, until the 9th inning, when he came through with a 2 RBI single. He had two strikeouts and looked a bit overmatched on some off-speed pitches. He did start a nice double play in the bottom of the 8th inning, with Jeremiah Jenkins making a very nice stretch at first. Josuar also made what I would call an error. He ranged far to his left, jumped and got his glove on a ball, but didn't hold on to it. It was ruled a hit.
Drew Smith was the hitting hero. In the bottom of the 1st inning, with the based loaded, Jeremiah Jenkins popped up for the second out. Smith followed with a bases clearing double. Smith also hit a no-doubt homerun to left field in the 7th inning. In the 9th he hit one to the warning track in right center. It was a beautiful night for a baseball game, which saw the debuts of 3 of the Giants' draft picks. APGiantsfan
