Game Wrap 4/11/2026: Orioles 6 Giants 2

The Giants returned to a familiar formula for futility as Logan Webb struggled with his command and the lineup failed to capitalize on multiple run-scoring opportunities(I don't mean to imply that Logan Webb himself is a familiar part of a losing formula).  Key Lines:

Heliot Ramos LF- 2 for 4, 2 RBI.  BA= .218.  Ramos had both of the Giants RBI's in the game but one came on a 1-out, bases-loaded squibber to 1B that drove in Rafael Devers 1B from third but set up and inning-ending ground-out by Patrick Bailey C.

Speaking of Patrick Bailey, I was struck on that At-Bat and at least one other how awful his swings looked and how little enthusiasm he appeared to put into them.  Tony Vitello may have noticed the same body language and pinch-hit for him with Daniel Susac against a RHP, no less.

Logan Webb RHP- 6 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 6 K's, 9/1 GO/AO.  ERA= 5.25.  I will give Webb credit for battling through his command issues which did not improve in his later innings of work.  He ended up a run over the Quality Start limit.

The Loss dropped the Giants record to 6-9.  Adrian Houser RHP tries for a series win tomorrow against Cade Povich LHP who has a career ERA over 5.  Expect Daniel Susac to be the starting catcher.

  1. One big risk they were taking on this team was relying on a pitcher like Logan Webb to produce at a 4 WAR+ pace. Pitchers very rarely can stay that consistent. Love Webb and I hope I’m wrong, but this team won’t be able to withstand a down season from him.

  2. Well, the Flying Squirrels had a thrilling finish!

  3. Re Susac being today's catcher, with Bader batting like a pitcher and Ramos and Lee slumping (although both had 2 hits yesterday), the Giants cannot afford 4 Mendoza-like batters in their lineup.
Yesteday, with RISP they were 2-14.
Without Ramos (1-2) and Lee (1-2), they were 0-10: Chapman 0-2, Devers 0-2, Bader 0-1, Schmitt 0-2, Bailey 0-2, & Susac 0-1, the latter killing a promising 9th inning rally with a GIDP.

  4. LOL: familiar formula for futility!
We can't give Webb a free pass: he has not been the Webb that the Giants need, with 1 high quality start, a second that just fit the "definition" and and 2 bozos.
With their #1 Ace pitching like journeyman, the Giants decrepit hitting (tied for 3rd from the bottom in MLB for runs scored), it's no wonder they're tied for last in the NL for wins.
And, please, have we not seen enough of Ryan Borucki?

  5. If the Giants bring up top prospect Bryce Eldridge, where will he play?
SF's 4 worse offensive producers are their catcher and their outfield — the entire outfield — and their most promising 13th man, Jared Oliva, is also an outfielder. Of sorts.
Their "best" hitter this year — with at least double digit games played in — is Schmitt, the leader in nearly all offensive categories: does he get benched when the OF is underwhelming so 1B/DH can be Devers/Eldridge?
Their Best Defensive players are Bader and Bailey who are also their Worst Offensive players!
They have one tradable player (*) who might (should be underlined) bring a promising prospect, Schmitt, who also is their best performer and can play multiple positions.
Not to be so negative after a sad loss with your Ace pitching, but sad is an understatement.
(*) Arraez is tradable but the Giants' would be kinda breaking the promise to play him @ 2B, assuming the promise wouldn't have to be honored, which is kinda DIShonorable.

    1. Good point about Eldridge. He and Devers would have to share, possibly alternate between, 1B and DH.

  6. Truth is a catcher with solid defense and a good bat provides more value than a good defensive catcher who is an automatic out with no pop and no on base skills. There’s a reason why great defensive players who can’t hit eventually lose their starting job and become defensive-first bench players.

  7. All of the negative posts keep coming even though the Giants have won the last 3 of 4 games. The season is 162 games long. If the OF continues to underperform, there are options in the minors that could be called up. Let Susac get at least half of the starts. Lots to improve on and assets there to build upon.
