Down on the Farm: 4/29/2026

The Giants were rained out in Philadelphia and will play a split doubleheader today with Logan Webb RHP taking Game 1 and TBD Game 2.

AAA:  Sacramento River Cats overwhelmed the Salt Lake City Bees 17-7.

Jesus Rodriguez C- 1 for 4, BB, HBP, SB(4).  BA= .337.
Bryce Eldridge 1B- 4 for 5, 2 HR(5), BB.  BA= .327.
Buddy Kennedy 3B- 3 for 4, 2B, BB, HBP.  BA= ..345.
Victor Bericoto RF- 2 for 5, HR(3), BB.  BA= .298.
Grant McCray CF- 2 for 5, HR(2), BB, SB(3).  BA= .222.
Carson Seymour RHP- 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 5 K's, 5/1 GO/AO.  ERA= 4.03.
Marques Johnson RHP- 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 4.50.
Braxton Roxby RHP- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 9.00.

There are some things going on here.  First of all, keep in mind that Salt Lake City is an extreme hitter-friendly environment at baseline.  There was a 9 MPH wind blowing out to RF at game time in this one.  Having said that, this was a stupendous game for Bryce Eldridge. Expect calls to start getting louder for him to come up as we approach May 1.  But where will he play?  Buster backed himself into a helluva corner as Eldridge plays the same positions as Devers who is a huge disappointment and signed through 2033 for a total of $238 M.  Of course they can both play with the DH in place but then what happens to Casey Schmitt?  I could see similar pressures for Rodriguez if Bailey's bat does not show improvement, especially after Susac gets back.  And Carson Seymour makes a nice bounceback from disaster game and in a tough pitching environment.  Factor out that one start and his ERA in in 4 other starts is 1.93 in 18.2 IP.

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels at Altoona Curve postponed.

A+:  Eugene Emeralds topped the Hillsboro Hops 3-1.

Carlos Gutierrez LF- 2 for 3, BB, SB(5).  BA= .215.
Zander Darby 1B- 1 for 3, HR(4).  BA= .306.
Charlie McDaniel LHP- 5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 8 K's, 5/2 GO/AO.  ERA= 1.10.
Gerelmi Maldonado RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 3.00.
Ben Peterson RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 2/0 GO/AO, Save(4).  ERA= 1.80.

Charlie McDaniel was signed as an UDFA in 2024.  He pitched to a 2.59 ERA for A San Jose last season but faltered to a 5.77 after a promotion to A+ Eugene.  He seems to have put that late promotion to good use as a learning experience and came back strong to start this season.

A:  Visalia Rawhide walked off the San Jose Giants after a 6-run rally in the bottom of the 9'th inning 9-8.

Junior Barajas C- 3 for 5.  BA= .301.
Cam Maldonado RF- 2 for 4, SF, SB(9).  BA= .343.
Damian Bravo LF- 1 for 3, 2 BB, SB(2).  BA= .278.
Isaiah Barkett DH- 2 for 4.  BA= .370.
Jordan Gottesman LHP- 4.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 4 K's, 6/3 GO/AO.  ERA= 3.60.

  1. The Devers trade hasn't panned out as hoped. You can give it more time, but we need to look to the future, and that's Eldridge.

  2. Who has more trade value, Arraez or Schmitt?
Perhaps, Devers could be "fixable" -- will he listen?
His 2026 huge deficiency is against RHP.
Against LHP he's not too much under his career numbers.
Unfortunately, he sees RHP a lot more more than LHP.

  3. There are exciting options for the Giants in AAA. Can the Giants put Devers on the 10 day IL? Injured psyche or broken swing? Jesus and Bryce are nailing it! Bericoto looks good as well. Since Jerar never plays, might as well bring Bericoto up. Lastly, Buddy Kennedy (the grandson of 16 year MLB veteran, Don Money) is slashing away some very solid numbers. Honestly, I don't know where he would play. Nice organizational depth. Let's not forget that the Giants were 19-9 in spring training* with much of the playing time going to the minor league players.
    *Spring games don't count unfortunately.
