I attended this game. It was a picture perfect day in Rancho Cucamonga after a spring storm although it got pretty warm sitting in the sun. Thankfully I was in the upper deck and got some shade from the stadium roof in the later innings. I was excited to see Jhonny Level warming up and his name at the top of the lineup. He did not disappoint, hitting a home run on the first pitch of the game over the left field scoreboard. He went on to have a rough day defensively. Junior Barajas is tall for a catcher. He also hit a home run over the 401 ft sign in left-CF. Keyner Martinez looked great through 3 perfect innings with a sinker that sat 95-96 MPH. A lead off bounding ball that was misplayed by Dario Reynoso at 2B in the 4'th inning seemed to distract Martinez. He didn't make it out of the inning and was charged with 4 runs. After that, the SJ pitching was terrible and the defense was almost as bad and the Quakes won in a route.
Perhaps Level not a long-term shortstop?
ReplyDeleteGo Jhonny go!
ReplyDeleteLevel looks physically developed for 19 years old. He might put on some weight in the coming years and outgrow the shortstop position. His bat can play anywhere. We have a lot of middle infielders but need some outfield help. Level kind of reminds me of Kirby Puckett.
A podcast mentioned he recently missed time with a sore back.
How did Polanco look in centerfield?
Thaks for all you do.
Polanco looks like a gazelle in CF. He can cover a lot of ground, but on one play he ran all the way in front of the left fielder in straightaway LF for a ball then dropped it.
DeleteRichmond has a new ball park this year, CarMart Stadium. Maybe it will help erase the Eastern League curse that has bedeviled Giants hitters.
ReplyDeleteBo Davidson missed time recently due to paternity leave. Proud father of a new baby girl.
