Willy Adames had a night on his return to Milwaukee but it wasn't enough as the Giants suffered a walk-off loss. Key Lines:
Willy Adames SS- 2 for 4, 2 HR(22), 2 R, 2 RBI. BA= .224. First pitch he saw was a mammoth HR to LF. He went deep again in the 8'th inning to narrow the Giants deficit to 4-3. Unfortunately both HR's were of the solo variety which in the end proved to be not enough.
Luis Matos RF- 2 for 3, 2B, HR(6), BB, SB(3), 2 R, RBI. BA= .190. In two games since his recall from AAA, Matos has 4 hits in 7 AB with 2 doubles, a triple and a HR plus a walk. Whatever the Giants must do to get him daily PA's ROS is good for me. I just don't want to see him become another squandered talent if at all possible.
Carson Whisenhunt LHP- 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 5/2 GO/AO. ERA= 4.91. More of the same from Whiz. Some nice pitches, pitched out of trouble a couple of times but the wildness eventually caught up with him. 2 WP''s and a HBP didn't help his own cause.
Randy Rodriguez RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.78. Rodriguez got the final out of the 8'th inning and came within an out of extending this one to extra-innings but then gave up the walk-off HR to William "I'm not Willson" Contreras C. IDK, right now I am not seeing next season's closer in the organization. I checked the pending free agent list and John Brebbia is available(that's a joke).
Logan Webb RHP triest to even the series tomorrow facing Freddy Peralta RHP who comes in with a 2.78 ERA.
Don't think the Giants need Duval – he's been ineffective in NY, even as a 6th inning bridge – but obviously Rogers is sorely missed.
ReplyDeleteWhy Walker was pulled after 17 pitches – 2 strike outs and 2 ground outs with a break in the middle – but that put Rodriguez into a 1+ inning appearance. Probably wouldn't have mattered, he still would have faced Contreras who has legitimate power.
Poor Melvin can't catch a break: he has no magic. San Diego has done pretty well without him. He has multiple division titles and multiple post seasons and the 20th most managerial wins in MLB history, but he's bound for 2 losing sesons out of 2 with SF: will he be back next year? Or, will he even make it through this year? Buster needs to do something and you can't fire the team!
The coaches are catching a lot of flak but they are easy targets: did coaches get the credit when SF won 107 games in 2021, setting an all time Giants' record that had stood for 117 years?
Closers are fickle, strange beasts. Some guys, for whatever reason, just don't have the temperament to show up and act like it's "just another inning," despite being great relievers in other situations (even high leverage ones). Randy is young so he may grow into the role, but right now, he seems to be a great piece of a good bullpens 6th-8th inning bridge to the intimidating closer we do not have. Ryan Walker still has the potential for me, as his wonky delivery/release point and the "wild hair up his nose," the Kruk & Kuip say, strike a little fear and uneasiness in hitters. Buster knows the importance of bullpens, so hopefully he finds some diamonds in the rough!
ReplyDeleteRyan Walker has pitched better as of late and I think has earned the right to go back to being the closer for the rest of the season. If Walker isn't it, then pursue a veteran in the offseason. Rodriguez looks he's hit a bit of a wall now that bats have started figuring him out. Lucchesi has also been looking like a gas can as of late.
ReplyDeleteDoc, I have not watched the west coast games this week, at my age its my bed time. Oh for the days of my youth and I could party all night.
ReplyDeleteIn any event > even if I had the jam my optomism has gone for naught!
I will watch todays and tomorrow's given Webb and Ray starting.
I have no clue what the Giants should do in the off season
We have Webb and Ray and lord only knows who else.
Adames / Chapman and Devers , Bailey and Lee I believe as lock sinches!
Then who ever!
No comments from me on the coaching staff.
Just at a loss to figure out what we look like next year.
The one positive > there is next yeaar.
Richard in Winnipeg
Buster has his work cut out for him in the upcoming Hot Stove League. Just thinking about it gives me a headache.
DeleteHopefully the FO has a good handle on what went wrong and go from there. This will only be Busters 2nd off season, but I'm optimistic he'll make good baseball decisions. Who knows what he'll do. Making a lot of off season moves may or not be a good thing. Good initial MRI on Roupp so he should be #3 starter. Whoever made the decision to insert him into Starting rotation was a good decision. As for closer I would hope they can develop one from within, good teams do that.
DeleteForever Giant YtY has come through after a slow start: collecting 5 HRs in 69 PAs, slashing .246/.348/.579/.927!
ReplyDeleteHe'll soon be over 3.0 bWAR for the year.
That should earn him a 2026 contract somewhere, but probably not Boston, too bad.
I wouldn't mind YtY coming back as long as it was understood that his role was 4'th OF/lefty bat off the bench.
DeleteHe's a very streaky hitter. It looks like the change of scenery did him some good which raises the question of what on Earth is going on in the Giants clubhouse?
DeleteI don't follow the Royals and don't pretend to know what's going on with Yaz, but I read that 3 out of the 5 hrs with the Royals wouldn't have been homers at Oracle. Glad Yaz is doing well.
DeleteOne more, Krakow said on KNBR that the Giants hitting coaches have been trying for most of the season to help their hitters adjust to hitting the 4 seam fastball with no success., so other teams pitchers keep throwing its surprising to me that MLB hitters can't make the adjustments.
