Justin Verlander rolled back the years and turned into a vintage performance only to see the Giants lose due to a lack of run support and a bullpen failure in the later innings. Key Lines:
Willy Adames SS- 1 for 4, SB(6), R. BA= .224. Adames flyball single in the 6'th followed by a SB led to the Giants only run.
Jung Hoo Lee CF- 2 for 4, SB(10). BA= .260. Lee lined another ball to the warning track to the CF side of Triples Alley that looked like a sure triple that would drive in 2 runs but was caught by Jake Mangum RF(Rays) in an exact replay of Gregor Blanco's catch in Matt Cain's perfect game.
Christian Koss 3B- 2 for 4, 2B, RBI. BA= .274. The Giants lone run came on Koss' single. Koss has the second highest BA in yesterday's Giants lineup and the 5'th highest OPS.
Justin Verlander RHP- 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K's, 7/3 GO/AO. ERA= 4.23. Easily Verlander's best start of the season.
Jose Butto RHP- 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 0 K. ERA= 3.54. Butto got two outs on fly outs but then hit a batter followed by two singles. Matt Gage LHP came in with a run in and runners at first and third. He gave up a groundball single and that was the ballgame. So the 2-out HBP came back to bite Butto.
Logan Webb RHP tries to stave off a sweep to day facing Ryan Pepiot RHP who comes in with a 3.86 ERA.
it would be decent of the Giants to release poor Justin Verlander so that he could sign on with a postseason contender before the August 31 deadline. (The only condition would be that he not sign with the Dodgers.)
ReplyDeleteAll season sleepy Bob has been leaving pitchers in too long and as soon as he tries to avoid doing it again he gets burnt by his pen. I actually feel bad for Verlander and the total lack of support this team has given him all year. I feel bad for Buster who has made moves to improve this garbage team and it only gets worse. I feel bad for our fans who have been filling the ballpark better than any recent season. I feel bad for Bob Melvin, Pat Burrel, and Matt Williams who probably have puked in their mouths a little every day watching these players look like total jack asses. I feel bad for all our pitchers who did enough for us to compete this year and probably more.
ReplyDeleteClearly change is needed but those that have caused this train wreck may not be the ones held responsible. Such is life so often and when something isn’t working it has to be fixed. It may not be the coaching staff’s fault but they will all need to go but more importantly, there will need to be a replacement coaching staff that doesn’t tolerate what happened this year. The culture or lack thereof on this team needs to be extinguished so no trace of the embarrassment of this year is present. If other sacrafices are needed to cement the message I have one lamb that probably should be led to slaughter and that is Ramos. Just because he is our best hitter and first homegrown OF since Chili blah blah blah. He is a cancer and no matter how good he can hit he will always hurt more than he helps. There will likely be more struggles next year but in order to get this ship turned in the right direction it will take difficult decisions and patience
Whoo boy! Tell us how you really feel.
DeleteGiants should definitely get rid of their best hitter because he is their worst fielder.
DeleteMaybe Ramos is a DH next year, with Luciano, Lee and Encarnacion across the OF.
Delete"...Koss has the second highest BA in yesterday's Giants lineup..."
ReplyDeleteThe highest is Dominic Smith @ .282
3-6 in BA are Ramos, Lee, Schmitt, and Flores.
7th would be YtY if he hadn't been traded.
In BA for SF, then come Devers, Chapman (if he had played), and Adames...
The Giants did "outhit" the Rays, 7-6, and had the only XBH.
The home plate umpire, Dan Iassogna, was as bad as an umpire can be. He is below average in most umpire ratings (https://umpscorecards.com/data/single-umpire/Dan%20Iassogna)
Doc > Maybe they showed start playing the "El Degüello" (Spanish: El toque a degüello) is a bugle call, notable in the United States for its use as a march by Mexican Army buglers during the 1836 Siege and Battle of the Alamo to signal that the defenders of the garrison would receive no quarter by the attacking Mexican Army under General Antonio López de Santa > when the Giants are ging on the field!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe a little to cruel!
Richard In Winnipeg
what impresses me during this run of futility is that the Giants should have won at least one game by accident.
ReplyDeleteAt this point, I just want them to finish among the bottom six of lottery eligible teams at this point. We only need two lottery eligible to start winning.
ReplyDeleteWhats crazy about this is losing 15 out of 16 games at home. What upset me the most is the Giants BLOWING another Verlander win.
ReplyDeleteHate to admit it but I skipped watching the game. I can't stand watching this anymore.
