Well, well, well! How many of you all had an inside-the-park, walk-off, 3-run homer by Patrick Bailey as the game winner on your betting parlay, oh ye of little faith? Yeah, me neither. Key Lines:
Patrick Bailey C- 2 for 4, HR(2), R, 3 RBI. BA= .194. The Giants scratched out a run in the 2'nd inning on a walk by YtY and singles by Jung Hoo Lee CF and Dominic Smith 1B. Bailey GIDP'd to end that rally and the Giants did not threaten again until the 9'th which they entered trailing 3-1. I had an inkling they might have a puncher's chance when I saw Jordan Romano RHP come out for the 9'th. And what's up with Romano? Is he like mentally and/or physically OK? Dude looked awful! Anyway, Casey Schmitt 2B led off with a a ringing double into the LF corner. Jung Hoo Lee popped out but Wilmer singled sharply up the middle with Schmitt wisely stopping at 3B. If you are the lead runner, you don't want to get thrown out at home if your team is down by 2 runs! That brought Patrick Bailey to the plate. I was hoping he could slap a single or something but he crushed it to the top of the brick wall in Triples Alley. It caromed away from the OF's and skittered along the base of the fence all the way to L-CF. Kuip was yelling that Bailey was on the move and he was, all the way around for one of the more amazing endings to a Giants game. Didn't Angel Pagan hit a walk-off inside-the-parker once upon a time and pull his hammy in the process?
Robbie Ray LHP- 5.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 2.63. Ray pitched well enough against a tough lineup but couldn't quite get out of the 6'th inning. Spencer Bivens got the final out of the inning with runners on 2'nd and 3'rd. Bivens then gave up a 2-run bomb to Kyle Schwarber in the 7'th which made the score 3-1 setting up Patrick Bailey's heroics.
Justin Verlander RHP tries for his first Win as a Giant and a series swweeeep tomorrow afternoon against Jesus Luzardo LHP who comes in with a 4.44 ERA.
Haven't recovered yet from the excitement of the 9th inning. When Bailey hit the ball I thought it was a 3.run homer. When it hit off the wall and bounced away from Matsh I knew the game was tied, and thankfully Bailey was able to come all the way around the bases to score..that was so fun to watch good for Bailey. Luckily I almost decided not to watch the 9th inning but changed my mind. Wow!
ReplyDeleteWeeHaw!!!!!! I just got back from the game and yikes. As Vizzini (Wallace Shawn's character in The Princess Bride) would say, "Inconceivable!" As my friend next to me was saying, "Isn't there anyone to pinch hit for him?" Bailey hit one off the bricks. Here is hoping this game gets him on track.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't you know it ... I was ready to drop Bailey from my fantasy team!
ReplyDeleteWait! You still have Bailey on your fantasy team? I mean last night notwithstanding he's still betting under .200.
Delete...er batting.....
DeleteYou do recall Pagan's walk-off inside-the-parker, Doc...i think it was 2013, and yes, pulled hammy and it ruined his season.
ReplyDeleteIt seemed like Pagan was never the same again.
DeleteThe ricochet off the wall was best. I wonder what was the exit velocity for that.
ReplyDeleteLooking ahead to the weekend, there's some talk that, with the day off tomorrow, the Giants will skip Birdsong's start Saturday and go with Webb, Loupp, and Ray (on normal rest) against the Lost Angels this weekend to close out the first "half"!
