Notes: Vaun Brown OF and Jairo Pomares OF were released from the AA Richmond Flying Squirrels. It is reasonable to think these moves might be a prelude to some post-draft promotions. Will we see Bo Davidson and/or Scott Bandura in AA in the near future? Bryce Eldridge is rehabbing and may come off the IL soon too.
Brown was a 10'th round draft pick in 2021. He caught some helium in 2022 batting .346 across 3 levels and flashing some serious tools. Since then he's battled a series of injuries with several prolonged IL stints. That's tough for a prospect to overcome. His batting line for AA this year: .247/.347/.282, 13 SB. While his batting line is not great, especially with the lack of power, he was far from the worst performer for Richmond. Jairo Pomares was the third member of the International triumvirate which included Marco Luciano and Luis Matos in 2018. He got off to a strong start in 2021 slashing .334/.378/.629 with 20 HR's over 2 levels. He hit 17 HR's in 2022 but missed most of 2023 with some sort of injury. He batted .238 with 12 HR's in AA in 2024 and was hitting .209 with 9 HR's this season. Again, not great numbers but far from the weakest performer in AA.
Pomares born 8/04/2000 is the oldest of the 3 by a year +
ReplyDeleteLuciano born 9/10/2001
Matos born 1/28/2002
Pomares was the Giants' #7 prospect in 2022 (MLB Pipeline).
ReplyDeleteBrown got as high as #5 in 2023.
Doesn't Doc says something like "Don't fall in love with prospects"?
Pour one out for Vaun Brown.
