The Giants looked like a completely different team than the one that arrived in Phoenix, AZ on Monday as they gained a split of the 4-game series with an emphatic win. Key Lines:
Mike Yastrzemski RF- 3 for 5, R. BA= .250. Still not great to have your leadoff batter reach base 3 times and score just one run.
Willy Adames SS- 3 for 4, 2 2B, BB, 3 R, RBI. BA= .218. Adames is batting .286 over his last 15 games and his swing is starting to look better.
Rafael Devers DH- 1 for 3, BB, SF, R, 3 RBI. BA= .260. Devers also looked like he wasn't trying to wing the game all by himself with better results.
Heliot Ramos LF- 2 for 5, 2B, 2 RBI. BA= .277. There was a situation where Devers was at the plate with 2 outs and runners at 2'nd and 3'rd. That might be situation where a RHP might pitch around him with the open base but Heliot was on deck and already had two hits. Devers got a pitch to hit and delivered a 2-run single past a diving first baseman. I know SABR types scoff and the idea of lineup protection but that would seem to be an example.
Andrew Knizner C- 2 for 4, 2 R. BA= .152. Knizner has 3 hits in his last 9 AB's over 3 games.
Robbie Ray LHP- 9 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 7 K's, 12/6 GO/AO. ERA= 2.68. Ray took full advantage of the lineup support, pounded the strike zone, kept his pitch count down and delivered a complete game giving the entire bullpen the night off. Spencer Bivens got up in the 9'th after Marte's HR but he did not need to come in as Ray closed it out himself. Ray might have labored just a bit in the 9'th but up until then barely broke a sweat.
It will be a happy flight back to the Bay Area tonight. Not sure what the travel arrangement are for a weekend series in Sacramento but I would hope everybody gets to sleep at home tonight.
Justin Verlander RHP starts tomorrow night facing JP Sears LHP who comes in with a 5.08 ERA but word is the Sutter Health Field is playing quite hitter-friendly at the MLB level.
