Game Wrap 7/25/2025: Mets 8 Giants 1

How many times over the last 3-4 seasons have the Giants come home after ending a road trip with an encouraging win and faceplanted in their first game back at home?  It happened again yesterday as Logan Webb had his worst start of the season and the Giants lineup sputtered after scoring a run in the first inning.  Key Lines:

Heliot Ramos LF- 2 for 4.  BA= .270.  Ramos led off the Giants first inning with a groundball single, went to 3B on Rafael Devers 1B(.263) double and scored on a ground out.  The Giants had 7 other hits and a walk in the game but couldn't sequence them into more runs.

Logan Webb RHP- 4 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.  ERA=. 3.38.  Webb hit a rough patch with 3 non-quality starts in a row.  He's come out of these in the past but has also had to take some time off for arm soreness at times.

Tristan Beck RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 5.14.  The Giants need a starter for Sunday.  This appearance means it probably won't be Beck. Kai-Wei Teng RHP pitched in yesterday's AAA game so it probably won't be him.  Looking more like a bullpen game.

Robby Ray LHP takes the mound tonight facing David Peterson LHP who comes in with an ERA of 2.90.

The Giants starting pitching starts to look dire as they announced that Landen Roupp RHP was placed on the IL due to elbow inflammation.  That does not sound like just one or two missed starts.

  1. Amid the doom (ace shelled) and gloom (closer whacked), the offense failed again and again and again, beginning, middle, and ending:
1st inning: runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs and the middle of the lineup coming up and scoring just ONE run
5th inning: the bottom of the lineup setting the table for the TOP in and scoring NONE runs
9th inning: Flores, Schmitt, and Bailey not putting a ball in play with a nobody like José Castillo getting 3 wiffs on 11 pitches.
All in front of a full house of 41,163 fans.

  2. knock knock? who's there? cat. cat who? catastrophe! that what's came to mind when i read the news about Roupp at your site. and he was really putting it together and it turns out the most effective of the trio of Harrison, Birdsong, and Roupp? now it's not the wild card but staying above .500 that appears to be what the Giants may be dealing with. -es

  3. Logan Webb: would have been nice to have had the All Star break entirely off.
Like you said, he going to need some time, and who is going to pitch?
Are the other Carsons coming up? Black? Winn? They haven't been particularly successful in Sac but the PCL is a tough league for pitchers.

  4. Yep, been using that "faceplant" term for the Giants for the last few years for the Giants penchant of crapping the bed after seeming to have everything going, but it's usually against bad teams! And it's usually done by the better players not because of the holes on the roster...

Sucks about and for ROUPP who has been a life saver for the Giants..but not totally unexpected (Like Birdsong's struggles) due to his injury history..While i like the DEVERS aquisition , Buster and GMZM left the Giants totally exposed to a rotation meltdown like they are having now...

Interesting to see how Buster reads to the tea leaves and whether he keeps going for it ..or..becomes a bit of a seller and looks more to next year..Probably the former..

Teng has been the best starter in the system the last month and maybe after a relief outing last night he can help in 3-4 days..I'd say Whiz too but they might be limiting his innings alreaady

  5. Despite all of the gloom, Giants are still only 1 game behind the Padres. There was a report yesterday that San Diego's ownership has told the GM he can't add salary, so he's got to dump some of the big names to swing any trades to shore up their rotation and left field voids.
