  1. The Flying Squirrels have a nice little streak going, winning 4 in a row and 5 of 7 in July.
They finished June 5-5 which isn't great but it was good for a team that was losing 2 of every 3 games.
Although they lost yesterday, the River Cats got over .500 briefly, and are 44-44 today.
The Emeralds have climbed to 9 over .500 with their win yesterday, and, although they lost yesterday, the SJ Giants are solid at 54-28.
The ACL Giants are 34-15, the DSL Giants Orange are 17-9, and the DSL Giants Black are an incredible 20-7.
With all that winning, the SF Giants farm system is generally ranked among the worst in Major League Baseball for the 2025 season. Several outlets have ranked the Giants' farm system near the bottom, with some even placing it last in MLB (per Google AI).
The farm system is criticized for lacking depth and overall talent beyond a few top prospects, according to a report from Sports Illustrated.
Seems that the system must have more than just "overall talent beyond a few top prospects" to be doing so well across the board, doesn't it?

    1. There is a lot of groupthink out there among prospect and farm system analysts. I don't think the Giants have the best farm system out there but it's not nearly as bad as the CW thinks, especially when you get down to A ball and the complex leagues.

    2. I’ve always wondered why the Giants consistently rank low in farm system rankings. My theory is that they lack “insiders”—people who build close relationships with prospect evaluators.

I should probably dig into the data, but it feels like the industry tends to produce a lot of false negatives when it comes to Giants prospects. In other words, they’re often underrated. As a result, analysts miss on some big ones—like Patrick Bailey, Brandon Crawford, and Logan Webb.

    3. I've often wondered the same, even feeling 'slighted' when our guys get no love. I'm starting to think that maybe it's possible that certain markets tied to large media are basically told/paid to create hype for the MLB team.

    4. I don't think there is any conscious bias or payola going on. Based on my own observations from reviewing many a prospect ranking and mock draft, it's mostly groupthink and laziness. I routinely come across rankings and mock drafts which are clearly copied and pasted from another source. While I believe respected sources like Baseball America and MLB Pipeline do their own work, they all depend on scouts who are willing to talk which may be the same scouts for both publications. I am sure scouts from some organizations are more talkative than others.

  2. Looking like the most ready and best call up the Giants have right now at SP is TENG....Control has always been his problem and he seems to have that under, well, control....McDonald and Whiz still fighting consistency issues...I can't see the Giant not adding a veteran SP before the deadline. and, depending on how Birdy and Verlandr do their next few outings, they may also bring in a call up like Teng/Seymout/Whiz

Both Bendura and Davidson had a day off..Both having great season at EUGENE and I hope to see them in RICHMOND within the month.. Once they move up, there are plenty of candidates in SJ to move up to Eugene.

  3. Teng has 75 strike outs in 47 innings. He’s only 26. He started out in the pros basically out of high school. He’s also struck out a ton of people. Maybe he’s finally coming into his own?
