Madison Bumgarner pitched all 5 innings of a rain shortened game and drove in a run for good measure. Key Lines:
Steven Duggar CF- 1 for 3, 3B. BA= .235. Duggar shows off his extra base skill. He also reached base on a error and drove in a run on a fielder's choice. He's had a slow start to the spring. Hopefully he heats is up as the weather warms up.
Gerardo Parra RF- 2 for 3. BA= .296. Parra is looking like the starting RF which is probably an upgrade on last year, but a bit disappointing.
Brandon Belt 1B- 1 for 2, HR(2). BA= .364. Belt just needs to stay healthy for once.
Alen Hanson 2B- 1 for 2. BA= .179. Hanson is the forgotten man. It's pretty hard to see how he makes the team at this point.
Madison Bumgarner LHP- 1 for 2. BA= .500. Bummy was swinging a hot bat in the first AB's for a Giants pitcher this spring. He lined out on a 3-1 pitch and then singled up the middle in the Giants 4-run rally in the 4'th inning.
Madison Bumgarner LHP- 5 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 5/3. ERA= 8.25. Fairly strong start for Bummy. He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the 4'th but gave up a 2-run dinger in the 5'th. The game was called as soon as he finished the 5'th inning.

Derek Holland makes his 4'th start of the spring agains the Mariners in Peoria. Drew Pomeranz will pitch in a minor league game.

Hanson: no option, trade value?
ReplyDeleteParra compounds the LHB problem. Is any lefty tradeable at value? It's really not just one, though. Gotta keep Posey wired together, hope for effective seasons from Longo and Mac. This is not going to be pretty.
And Harper would not have helped. Convert Bumgarner to 1B? LOL, he has bad splits against LHP, too.
Should they have tried harder (would it have helped?) to get Pollock? Guess what, his BA is better against RHP although his power is against LHP.
This is not a problem that's going away! Fix it, Farhan!
"Parra is looking like the starting RF which is probably an upgrade on last year, but a bit disappointing."
ReplyDeleteIf Duggar and Williamson are also upgrades on Hernandez and Pence (or 2018's Mac), then the OF is upgraded over a team that managed to still kinda be in it September 1st.
This could be a better team than last year!
Success lies on the shoulders of the Fabulous Five, average age 31.2 yo.
California Dream Lives!
Well, I kind of forgot about Cutch, so maybe Parra is not an upgrade?
DeleteWhy is Duggar the leadoff batter?
ReplyDeleteSeems pretty stressful way to start a career.
Isn't Duggar a guy that you want to bring along slowly, being successful at things before being depended upon?
Not that the Giants have a natural leadoff guy.
Who should?
This depends on the player. Some guys get a boost when someone shows confidence in them. Maybe Duggar is that guy?
DeleteDuggar is leadoff because he earned it last season. IMO, it's his until he loses it.
DeleteLeadoff is not a bad spot to hit in. There is pressure to get on base but Duggar has shown pretty good plate discipline. Leadoff tends to see more strikes and more FB's because the opposing pitcher does not want to give up a leadoff walk.
