A nearly pulseless Giants offense mustered just 3 hits in a game that was not as close as the final score would have you believe. Key Lines:
Mac Williamson RF- 1 for 3. BA= .237. Maybe Mac hangs onto a starting OF job by default because 1 hit is better than 0. On the other hand, everybody seems to be expected more trades before Thursday.
Conner Joe LF- 0 for 3. BA= .240. Joe hasn't exactly been on fire since coming to the Giants.
Dereck Rodriguez RHP- 4 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 4.76. Velocity was 89-91 on the FB and command was shaky.
Trevor Gott RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, GO/AO= 3/0. ERA= 0.00. There has to be a roster spot for Gott, right?
Travis Bergen LHP- 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.69. Bergen gives up his first runs of the spring.
Tyler Rogers RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, GO/AO= 2/0. ERA= 0.00. 4 pitches, 2 worms killed. Then a K. I want more of Tyler Rogers!

As the Roster Churns: Giants fans woke up to a new trade as Farhan Zaidi dealt minor league IF CJ Hinojosa to the Brewers for C Erik Kratz. Kratz seems like a decent enough backup C. It's a bit curious that the Giants just parted ways with Rene Rivera who seems be be just as good or better for the role. Ironically, given that Farhan Zaidi was brought in to bring the Giants up to speed on analytics, Kratz' main claim to fame seems to be a very old school Giants thing for Clubhouse Chemistry. Oh, and RHP Jose Lopez was DFA'd to make room for Kratz on the 40 man roster.

On the up side. 1) Oakland only had four hits. 2) this giants offense didn't feature either posey or panik. Let's see how they do when full strength. They've been good so far this spring when they have been.
ReplyDeletePitching and Defense is what will determine what type of Team we see in 2019
DeleteDrod will start in SD for 1st 3 or 4 games depending on whetehr he starts last game in SD or first game in LA.
ReplyDeleteThat gives SF an extra guy for openers with just 8 pitchers.
Then they can bring him up and option someone out if they haen't traded someone by then
botch -- Drod will start in Sac for the first 3 or 4 games ...
Deletei wouldn't be surprised if belt ends up having to play more outfield at this rate.
ReplyDeleteTrade Value at all All Time High too
DeleteOnce again, Belt is not going to play significant innings in the OF.
DeleteOn the down side, of Oakland's four hits, three were homeruns.
ReplyDeleteWild guess: They will trade Belt for a Right-handed corner OF. Then Buster will play a lot of games on 1B, preparing for Bart's arrival.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see that - but Buster needs to put up good numbers, esp SLG %, or his trade value is limited.
DeleteBelt has a NTC. And I don't think he wants to go anywhere. Not when he's on the cusp of breaking out.
DeleteThe Giants are going to keep Buster at C as long as they possibly can. He would be a significant downgrade from Belt at 1B and a downgrade on his own value to the team.
DeleteI wish I had a hint as to what this Mr Z is doing? If they are going to keep 3 catchers, it seems like No. 3 would be a young guy like Aramis. Bart is going to take most of Aramis' time shortly anyway....
ReplyDeleteAramis need to be getting daily AB's. Best place for that right now is Sacramento.
DeletePavs speculates that he will be DFA shortly, if he clears waivers then Giants can assign him To AAA for depth. Or, they might keep him as the 3rd catcher to lessen Busters workload.
ReplyDeleteWho are we talking about here, Kratz or Murph?
DeleteMurphy, but Pavs was just assuming That's what Zaidi has in mind
DeleteGreat game tonight i think i saw more footage of seagulls invading an empty stadium than i saw actual baseball being played. Get ready for around 80 games just like this one. I actually think Farhan has a good chance of getting fired at the end of the year if the stadium has more seagulls than fans every night. For 30 million more and some interest up front he could of at least had Harper to attract fans to the park. Instead he has the greatest double play hitting catcher since AJ Perzinski and a team full of washed out minor leaguers who couldnt hit water if they fell out of a boat. California dreamin is looking more like a nightmare
